White German Shepherd - Page 1

I have a friend who lost his White GSD at the age of 12+ years.  He is looking for another one, a rescue would be great but he has not been able to find one.  Lives in the North KY/South Ohio area.  Anyone know where he might look?  Thanks

Will probably have to look through all the GSD rescues in the area, Did you do a search on www.petfinder.com

Do a google search for white GSD breeders in that area.....Many times breeders are looking to find good homes for those they don't consider breed worthy......If he wouldn't mind an older one, he may consider one a breeder is retiring.

you should look for white shepherd instead of white GSD

You may not find much help here, if at all.  Traditionalists do not work, train and or breed white shepherds.

Echo does a wonderful job @ rescue, as does Nancy Swanner in Az..  In the US Whites are still generally known as, and registered as white GERMAN SHEPHERD DOGS... in Europe, South Am etc under international kennel club registrations they're registered as Swiss White Shepherd.  Ronda Beaupre who had Regelwise is no longer breeding, but she placed her breeding stock with others.  I recommend Joanne Chanyi and Linda Prolix of Hoofprint - Lynden kennels in Ont Canada. As well as a couple rooms full of show wins, her dogs do awesome in Obedience and she has dogs working with Police, Guide dogs, SAR etc... And they get about every genetic check known to exist and have for 20+ years. (Jo was instrumental in starting the WGS Database which tracks things like PRA< Von Wildebrands, Dysplasia, Epilepsy, Spinal Miopathy, food allergies... Her website has alot of info about GSD genetic issues.

To Kyle - I did not ask for opinions on White GSDs.  I personally do not like that color, but I can't imagine a trainer refusing to train a dog because of it's color.  Thanks to those who were helpful. We have found just what he needed and saved a life.  Hope that doesn't upset you, Kyle, that we have saved a white Shepherd!
