From what I understand Royal Canin isn't the best food. It's not the worst, but there are much better. I've been seeing a trend towards wheat free and corn free foods.
Personally I feed Kirkland which is middle of the road and does contain wheat and I think corn. I've been feeding it for 13 years but am trying out Actr1um which is Walmart's natural food. So far I am Meh about it. My new puppy will come on Orijen which is a great food, but with multiple dogs in the house I just can't afford to feed Orijen exclusively. I will either stick with Kirkland or keep giving Actr1um a good old College try and I do supplement with RMBs and whole raw fish.
Also the better the food the less the dog eats. My dogs eat less than a 2litre scoop of Kirkland or Actr1um per day and the adult dog(s) poop once a day. The puppies more because they eat more often.
ETA: if you want to find a good kibble I suggest www.dogfoodanalysis.com Lots of great information on almost every commercial pet food available for sale.
Dogfood Analysis rates Royal Canin as a 2 start (out of a possible 6) for the price you pay for Royal Canin you could feed Orijen, which is a 6 star for MINIMALLY more $$. I don't know about where you live, but Orijen is the same of just a few bucks more per large bag than Royal Canin

I wil second what aceofspades says. Kirkland is a very good food. Kirkland does NOT contain corn or wheat in their foods.

See, now I need to re read the ingredients on Kirkland. THANK YOU for correcting me. I hate to give incorrect information. I thought it had wheat, and maybe corn. Either way we love it, my dogs do well on it for a kibble. I was actually planning on reading the ingredients on Kirkland again when we bought food next. I was wanting to get away form wheat and corn so that was why I was trying Actr1um, but we will stick to Kirkland. For the price it's great food.
Also....dogfood analasys rates at 3 stars out of 6, so better than Royal Canin (rated 2) and less than half the price. I've poured over food for hours and hours and I have never been able to find anything that is financially practical that my dogs do as well on as Kirkland.
Of course the raw whole salmon probably helps too.

I've been feeding Kirkland Lamb and Rive for 13 years now save for the current bag of Actr1um that we have that's almost finished. After you posted last time I went and checked the ingredients. Thanks so much. We are sticking with Kirkland. If it ain't broke don't fix it right?
I'm in Canada and haven't heard of Premium Edge. I'm guessing it's not available here.
My new puppy will come on Orijen so I will buy one large bag of that before switching her to Kirkland.

I met a woman while back she said that she has 5 year old female GSD that had a stomach problems and her poor dog was trowing up all the time, she said trying many different dog food brands did not solve her issue until she try Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream Canine Formula with Smoked Salmon (25% protein) and her dog had recover from stomach problems, my example from this that Taste of the Wild dog food will make your dog healthy since that is what I feed my dogs and they are in TOP shape.
If you want your dogs very strong looking TOTW will show better results on most of the dogs then Royal Canin.
My Female had very horible appitide, but after trying TOTW she eats that food like crazy!

What about for puppies? I know TOTW is an ALS (all life stages) and I've been feeding it to my 6 week old puppies, but I'm wondering if it has enough calories . Puppies need more than adults, just makes you wonder how its an ALS.
