I have a 9 months female GSD that is full of energy, but her appetite has dropped over the past week. She looks great and seems fine. She has eaten maybe 3 bowls of food (3 cups per bowl) over the last 5-6 days. Shoudl I be worried, or shoudl I take her to the vet?

When my dog experiences behaviors out of the ordinary, I give it 2 to 3 days max. Then I am off to the vet.. Best to catch a problem early, but thats me....Ruger1

She just finished her first heat cycle about 2 weeks ago. She really has an appetite for her treats, so I stopped that all together, for now at least. I will see how she does today, and if it's the same I will take her to the vet.

Msbwarrior,I too have had a female who went off her food after having her first season.I tried everything to persuade her to eat.she,d eat chicken and rice for a few days then refuse everything offered but would eat wot we had on our plates. It went on for a few months then suddenly hey ho she started eating normally. Was put done to hormonal stress .I suppose a bit likr PMT in human.never suffered from it again.Carole S.

My female was doing this at the beginning of this year. I was feeding Diamond's Sport dog formula. I began training at a new kennel at this same time and ask the owner (now good friend) for his advice. He suggested I try a differant food and suggested Taste Of The Wild. Problem solved and I now never have any problems getting her to eat. Just my two cents on what worked for me. Good Luck.

My bitch does this after each season, my vet says it's a hormonal thing.
