Dominant Dog Collar has anyone tried this on there dog???

by DebiSue on 12 July 2010 - 00:07
I have a nylon dominant dog collar that I use every time I use my pinch...it's a back up for when the pinch breaks and that is all I use it for. It releases faster than a choke which is basically what it is.

Interesting we have had pinch collars break and unhook themselves, not good when you are in a situation when the dog is lunging at another dog. Good idea having this back up. Did you know find the dominant collar anygood on its own?

it's a good product. be sure to measure correctly. I bought mine from Leerburg.com. Used it as backup for pinch collar. But then didn't need pinch collar anymore! Prefer my fur-saver link collar now. Like any tool, it's only as good as you know how to use it. But highly recommend "dominant" dog collar as backup if you are using pinch collar.

For what purpose is it used, is it intended to choke the dog out every time he is aggressive?

If your pinch collar is falling off, you are not putting it on or taking it off correctly. Quick release pinch collars are terrible for that, too.

yes, i have used a dominant dog collar on my own dogs before. that answers your question.
now, my turn... why do you ask, why do you need to use it?

I don't use the pinch collar anymore (quick release) for reasons that they undo from the dog. If you don't have a back up your in trouble. Stopped using them now, back on half check and have ordered the dominant collar from Leerburg to test out. I have informed the company whom we purchased the prong collar and they have no answers to why they come undone. Sounds like I am not the only person to have this happen too.

The pinch can come apart even when put on or taken off correctly. Sometimes they get in a bind, the link gets compressed and just like that you have a lead & pinch in hand and no dog. This is why I use the dominant dog collar, simply as a back up. I have only had that happen when my girl was young and would spin at the end of the leash when really excited. Now that she is better behaved I don't have that problem anymore but I still like the added security since one never knows when a dog will over react to something. Better safe than sorry. Also, I don't choke my dog out although it would work very well for that purpose I am sure.

I've only ever had a pinch come apart when I had too many links in it. So it never happens any more, now that I know better. I never give it enough slack TO compress. I don't like the narrowness of that dominant dog collar. Looks like it would do a lot more damage than a pinch does, which is practically none.
