Yesterday I got a CD on my shepherd!! I really want to go into open, but that means training to jump. My shepherd is turning 6 at the end of August. Is it a bad idea to be doing jumps, or how frequently should I be working on jumping in order to achieve a CDX?
Thanks,
Erika

Congrats on the CD!! Is this your Novice A dog? I would definately start training the Open exercises as for jumping we usually keep our jumps lower for our middle age dogs.  There's no reason to jump them high each time, as an example I might work our 7 year old Shepherd who jumps at 22 inches in shows at 18 most days then throw in 22 inches every now and then.  Keeps her on her toes! Have you tried Rally obedience?? Thats alot of fun and not nearly as demanding on them the highest they would jump is 14 inches.
Congrats again!!
