The internationally recognised temperament test, the Begleithund (BH) is now available to everyone. It is the first part of Schutzhund training and because of that training for it has been restricted to Schutzhund Clubs. Now Havers Specialised Dog Training is making the training available to everyone. The training and the test is open to all breeds and  mixed breeds whatever their age. I am running classes during the week and on Saturdays for the BH and anyone who wants to train for this is very welcome. Please visit www.haversspecialiseddogtraining.co.uk for full details of class times and locations.

For thise who don't know what a BH is her is a snapshot. The BH comprises of a pre defined heel work pattern which must be performed on and off lead. It includes a sit and a down on the move and heeling through a group. Part one also includes a knowledge test.
Part two assess the dog when a jogger, bike and car goes past, when the dog is tied up and another dog is walked past and how the dog behaves around a group of people.

If you would like to get involved, please contact me via the web site. My training venue is in Markfield, Leicestershire.

I am a little confused re your post Steve.

Surely ANYONE can train for the BH at any location, whether or not it is a Schutzhund club?  The only thing necessary is that the judge be a WUSV approved one and that the handler belongs to an affiliated club and has a score book?

Or have I missed something?

Well done for offering the training.
There is however a minimum age requirement to take the bh test, if it is to be recognised, so it is a little misleading to say the test is open to all breeds regardless of age.

You must have a Dog aged 15 months minimum to be able to take the BH test and it has to be carried out by a reg judge within the Schutzund Sport
Izzy is just coming 13 months old she is ready to take it now but not yet old enough

I train at Severnside and dogs of all breeds have ALWAYS been able to take this test at Severnside and other clubs withing the GSDL and in fact do!

What are the chances of us being accepted at your Club if we are only able to attend every 3 - 4 weeks because of the distance?  I was told that Severnside was full recently.

Better ask the secretary Linda, but I know we often struggle to get through all the dogs properly if the full complement of members are present!

A lot of members have more than one dog.

There really does have to be a maximum number a club can accommodate otherwise it is not possible to train effectively.
The helpers are only human and need to rest! :)

OK thanks for that.

Any chance we could interest one or more of the trainers to train us?  Do you train Langhaar... would you be interested in training novices... serious novices?

by Schutzhund Steve on 18 June 2010 - 13:06

All correct, what I am doing is letting people know I am offering training for the BH. People are welcome to train at my Schutzhund club or at one of my private classes and then take the test under a GSDL WDG judge at a trial. The minimum age is 15 months and this and the required training will be explained to any interested parties. The idea is to generate interest in the BH to those who may not be aware of it or are looking for training that tests the dog more than the KCGCDS. The more people who get involved in training their dogs to a recognised standard the better behaved dogs will be and the more educated the owners will be.
