Both of my dogs are grazers...big time, addicted grazers!

Every morning I feed them,  let them out, they potty, and then graze, I mean like horses. They'll do it endlessly if I let them. They get a well-balanced raw diet- meat, organs, bone and tripe. I also put some greens in their diet- parsley, barley grass, chlorella or spirulina (I alternate), on the recommendation of my holistic vet. Is it just my dogs or do your dogs graze too?  Also, I wonder if there is a difference between those who feed raw and those who feed kibble.

oops, sorry, I just realized I posted this on the wrong board.

All six of my Shepherds are grazers-they are fed a "Natural" kibble three times a day-they love picking through freshly mowed windrows.

I've had dogs all my life and I've never seen dogs graze like the two I have now. Yes, the others picked at the grass, but these two are different.

From what I've seen also, most dogs will occasionally eat grass, some more than others.. I wonder if one picked it up from the other and now they just do it out of habit or just copying... Monkey see, monkey do
Not really food related, but my female showline LOVES to dig. My 7 and 9 month old females NEVER dug until they were allowed to run around with her, now they all dig like crazy. Even the showline female tries to outdig the other girls now :-/ And she dug too much as it was to begin with!

All of my GSDs have been grazers.  I also had Border Terriers who grazed constantly, Yorkies who never did, and other dogs who did it periodically.  I've also noticed that Drake is picky about which grasses he prefers.  He will pick/sniff through the grass until he finds just the right one.

Thanks all. It's good to hear other dogs are voracious grass eaters too. I started to wonder if they were lacking something in their diet. Our grass is very lush, year round and I guess it's tasty- we live in Florida. I think you may be on to something Vomruiz.  Come to think of it, it didn't become so extreme until we got our second dog in October. Dog no. 1 used to graze a little, but now it's increased a lot since dog no. 2 moved in. It has gradually increased with both - maybe it's simply a competitive thing.

I figured you'd think I was crazy when I suggested a competitive thing hahaha!! But seriously, it really could be...They can't possibly be lacking that much in their diet to eat as much grass as you are saying they are.
Have you tried some canned spinach? I don't know if that will help but I give some to mine once or twice a week and was thinking of adding a bit more to Jena's diet. After I read this yesterday I went outside and she was going to the 5 small patches of grass I have left in my yard and grazing! hahaha!! Maybe that's why I have no grass left

Good luck!
