This ad caught my eye. www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/classifieds/96367.html

This is obviously a Bomber von Wolfsheim son for sale. (Heim=home in German.)  Bomber is so well known it seems strange that a 5 month old son of his would be looking for a home. I'm wondering if he was purchased by someone who found he was too much to handle?

Anyway, just thought I'd mention it, in case someone's interested! The description with the ad is obviously a BabelFish translation, and makes very little sense. I didn't want him to miss out on finding a good home just because the poster mangled the ad!

Here's daddy:

SS, I don't think it unusual that  Bomber progeny is for sale from Germany. There are quite a few of them.

Also for those in the U.S., his excellent litter mate is here.

He is a beautiful dog in the pic and I do appreciate the fact that the owner of the litter mate here in the U.S. has not photo shopped her dog.

Best,
Rik

Rik, what makes you think that picture is photoshopped? What was altered?  I hope it's not his topline, because that's one of the things I like the most about him.

SS, didn't mean to imply that the pic is photo shopped, just that his litter mate here in the U.S. is not.

Best,
Rik

One's the most overbred dog in europe, and the other will undoubtedly be overbred here.  I have to admit, I'd love to have an offspring of Vito myself.

However, did you notice the ad is a few months old?  I wonder if the ears are finally up.

Yes, that's true. That could be why he hasn't sold. I'm sure most of Bomber's progeny are spoken for before they are even born!

Also, photoshopped or not, Bomber is certainly one of the best looking working line dogs out there!

Daryl, how would you define "overbred" in the context of a working dog here in the US? 10 breedings a year? 20? 100?

I know Bandit's being bred to, but I don't think the numbers are large. Having met Bandit several time and watched him work, I think he's an excellent dog for breeding--looks, drive, power, and very sound temperament.

You're right, I don't have a clear idea of what overbred here would mean, I think the entire breed is overbred.  Beleive me, I'd rather see Bandit bred over a thousand others that shouldn't be.  But I doubt he'd even get 10 (outside) breedings a year.

As for Bomber, last I counted he had over 24 breedings in a four month span.  Proliferation on that scale repeatedly will affect the overall genepool, that someday we might hear the common phrase "looking for Bomber-free" bloodlines.

As of last month the number of breedings Bomber had was 108. That's a bunch of pups out there out of a fairly young dog. In a few years we will be able to see if he's a good producing dog or not.
