Oh Pam I am so glad I have ruffled your plumage my dear Old Peahen
You really do not know who I am do you dear but that is of no importance as you can see not everyone is jumping to your defence maybe its because of your narrow minded attitude.
Coloured breeders will tell you that they have done just as much research into their breeding as is possible to ensure they only produce healthy specimens as with any breeding there are good and bad in all.
There is no hard evidence as to why the White should be classed as a fault and personal experience has shown me that the white can be more intelligent than an over breed black and tan.
.
New blood is the difference between inherent problems and by using only quality stock from the vast amount of this new blood of which you all seem to be so afraid of for what reason other than personal taste .is the only way to ensure the GSD continues to flourish as a dog not as a breed standard.
As I read in another post if the SV OR KC were to suddenly change the rules as to what they thought had a better colour or line then you would all indeed be trying to get a pup into your kennels as fast as you could to try to have the first and best one of that type because that is what you are all about being the best .
You preach about the BS as if it were going against God himself to have anything other, for pity's sake it was a group of Germans sitting around a table in the 19th century that decided what was to be not God and his Disciples.
The German shepherd was around in what ever form long before there were governing bodies who dictated what colour and how it should look, and the GSD will continue to be around for a long time to come and quite possibly as a result of the very breeders you are mocking here today.
You should actually be thanking the breeders who by breeding the colour variations they do are actually beginning to show the outsider that the GSD is not just the hardened Agility and Police dog that many uninformed members of the public associate when the words German Shepherd are mentioned.
By breeding a more appealing softer colour it has been noticed that more and more people are changing not only their opinion of the dog but would more likely consider bringing one into their homes where they might not have done before ,especially if they happened to have small children.
I have been in a vets surgery and seen the obvious appeal a large fluffy White or Sable pup has on the people there and when the owner states the pup is a GSD the first reaction is ,Well I never knew they looked that cute( AND CAME THAT COLOUR ) wow so beautiful !!!!!!!!!.
So there is my argument we need the variation to stop a preemptive prejudice that all GSD's are only for one ability
So you see change can sometimes be for the good of all no matter what .
If Breeders of coloured GSD'S can promote a better understanding of how a dog is not just for one purpose, then surely that cannot be seen to be anything other than a bonus for the breed in general

Change can be good, but some things are better left alone.

Well... I have read some crapola on here, but the OP is the funniest and crappiest (sp?) yet! Are we supposed to take it seriously?
Softer, more appealing to the public AND smarter!! Everything we need and want in a Shepherd. LOL

Since you seem to be so ignorant as to the valid reasons why certain colours were deemed undesirable (and by the way a pure black is NOT an undesirable colour, although it may not be favoured by some, it is most certainly a correct colour), let me try to enlighten you.
All White GSD's were deemed undesirable for a couple of reasons which both relate to identification but for different effect. 1) Firstly, the human Shepherds need to be able to distinguish his GSD from his Sheep and a Wolf. For the Shepherd standing on the hillside with gun in hand knowing that his noble GSD had raced down to attack the wolf which was preying on the sheep, needs to be able to distinguish his dog from the sheep and wolf and since sheep are normally white and wolves normally Grey, if you had a white GSD in the mix , all would look very similar in the moonlight or even in daylight from a distance, so how could he be sure his aim was of the right thing? 2) Secondly, GSD;s were used in the war for various things, carrying messages along with sniffing out explosives etc, the last thing one needs when creeping around in enemy territory is a glaring White GSD !!! Brilliant Target practice that would give the opposition since there is not that many things in a war zone , a battle field , or any other type of terrain that a White GSD can blend in with (except of course the very thing you would prefer he didn't blend in with, sheep and wolves!!). This necessary need for a working dog in such circumstances is called camouflage, something a white GSD fails to achieve, not only would it make a perfect target of itself but also alert the enemy to the presence of its master and any other troops there with it.
Oh yes, lest I forget of course, it could be quite good camouflaging itself in the snow, great for wars fought in snow but not so great when trying to follow the dog thats trying to bring you to safety, or seeing where it got to when following the scent of someone trapped in the snow!! So, you see Sarotoga, whites may be lovely to look at and no denying that and as such command good money from pet people who have been fooled into believing the breeders adverts of rare breed, but as a practical , fit for purpose, fit for function working dog???? NO, NO, NO, Saratoga you are so wrong and ill informed !!! You know that saying that You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you will NEVER be able to fool all of the people all of the time. Well this is the time you have just found those people!!
Regards
Sue

My last post. (I hear the bugle from the regimental square.)
I agree with you Saratoga. 100%
By some of the comments submitted on this site I see that there has been too much inbreeding amongst the human populace as well as with the GSD.
I have seen in my short time here some really genuine people, but not enough for me to consider any further interest in the site.
I have however got a great deal of good information which I have put to good use with my dogs, I will take any further advice that I may need from my vet.
They should have had a site which deals with those who are solely interested in getting as much money out of breeding and showing as possible, and another for people who just love the GSD for what it is rather than what they can make out of it.
Bye all.

Terri if you are looking for bullies you may want to look a bit closer to the person who started the original thred on this topic , what kind of dog lover calls puppies freaks!! There are many many bullies on these boards as well as those that are genuinely passionate but to tar all breeders of colours as money grabbing is just not true. I have never sold a pup as rare , i am always completely honest about everything to do with my babies.
I do as much , if not more for my pups/dogs as those breeding to the standard , i personally believe my dogs meet the standard in every way bar colour!
I am not hiding behind a name either , my name is Lucy , i was born in 71 hence the user name , i am proud to own blues and whites and would love a nice quality liver one day , i have my eye on a litter of livers born here in the uk just a week ago , the dam is fantastic quality and from a working background , see colour doesn't decrease ability now does it.
