Just wondering if people are finding that their UK scores for hips and elbows are higher than expected.
I know of a few dogs that received elbow scores that were 1s last autumn. I am also aware of a few all scoring the same on the acetebular edge, all scored by the same person.
Im about to get my GSD bitch scored for hips and elbows as well as getting another breed scored and Ive been wondering if they are scoring the GSDs harder due to the breed standing up to the KC on wanting a harder stance on health.

Problem is regarding elbows a lot of people have only just started to do them there are more each quarter, a lot that would be grade 3 are operated between 5-7mths so do not get scored, where you get a 3 in a litter there will also be some 1s & 2s.
re the hips it could be that due to laxity in the joint the 'ball' is damaging the Cranial Acetabular Edge, if that is what you are referring to and not the Dorsal Acetabular Edge or the Caudal Acetabular Edge, if in these two areas it is in association with DJD. Also perhaps more people are sending them in regardless where up until recently if it looked like an unacceptable score people wouldn't.

Hi Pam, I thought it was a panel (of 3) that did the scoring... sounds like one person from what the OP says?

I am concerned about the Pen Hip Scheme. I know some vets ar laying more faith in it - I dont understand it totally, but our particular vet that does our scores now is much more in to that than BVA scoring - but without its recognition, its of no use to us. Hope we can get lots of clarification soon. Mo.

Sorry, I was a bit sleep deprived when I first posted. I was referring to the Cranial Acetabular edge, and what happened was several people all received the same score for it. It seems unlikely that a batch of dogs would all score exactly the same. Also when I said one person, I meant that one of the signatures was the same on all the certificates of scoring. Its one we can actually read, rather than being an illegible signature!

Hi Babs the radio-graphs are looked at by 2 people both have to agree on the scoring, if they don't I presume that is when they use a 3rd person, only 1 signs the form though. You have the right to appeal, the owner must put in writing within 45days. The same x-rays are used and scrutinized by Mr B M TURNER BVSc (Massey) DVR CertSAO MRCVS (Chief Scrutineer), a new appeal certificate is then issued, if the first scores have already been published by the KC the new ones are still published .
Hope that helps if anyone wants to appeal do it quickly, although remember scores may stay the same, maybe lower or even higher.
If all the x-rays the op was discussing were seen on the same day that would explain the same signature.
Pam

I believe that the scores for hips etc are now read by computer and that is why the scores are higher now; due to the accuracy of computers.
