Hi, My gsd is 22 months old and has become considerably, more focused, assured and confident in the past 8 months. Despite this (as I am sure most of you can attest to) he still has alot of young testy adolescent in him (and at times he will revert back as if he forgot everything he has learned(lol!!!). I would like to know when you feel most gsd's reach adulthood (2-3 years?)and any recommended articles about behavior for young/adolescent gsd's and training tips. Thanks in advance...I always appreciate the advice and opinions on this site.

(and at times he will revert back as if he forgot everything he has learned(lol!!!). Hate to break it to you but this can happen at any age with any dog or even we humans for that matter!! Training goes on forever... read Susan Garrett's Shaping Success... granted she is an agility person and her dog is a border collie but the message is what is important..it is a great book! I will have to think on more specific training books and I'm not certain there are too many that are GSD specific, if any...

I would like to report my experience on that. I agree training goes on forever, yet some dogs dont really forget, but only try to play with us. Other are so active that try not to concentrate, it gets better with age(3 to 4 years). When I started my dog was extremely active, an old handler used to train him and always said the dog was fantastic for training, yet with me, at that time with no experience, the dog was always trying to play a joke. The right dog for the old man was not the right one to me. We both insisted and with four years old the dog was able to do so many comands that people were impress, at that age I was able to work with him, I guess I was trained too.
