Hi, I have just joined this website and started reading some of the forums, could someone please explain bloat a little more indepth for me, what is it, how do dogs get it and is it preventable.

Also the reason I came on this website in the first place is my puppy who is 10 months old has a funny light coloured pink circle on the roof of his mouth near the back of his throat, the rest of the roof of his mouth is much darker and looks slightl differnent in texture, does anyone know whether this is normal for dogs to have patches on the roof of there mouth or is this something that I need to be worried about and need to be taking him to the vet for.

You said you have a 10mth old, usually different pigments of the mouth area is normal, if you where to shave you dog down to the skin you may see the same thing. There are times you will see more of this as your dog gets older.  I do recommend you do see your vet for yearly exams and always write down your concerns on paper, sometimes the vets office is so busy that you forget your questions if they are not written down :)
Always,
Cee

There is a very good article on David Payne's website:

Scroll down to the bloat/gastric torsion part.

The Videx website is very good for health information etc, and I often recommend it to people.

Just wish I could say the same about his outspoken views on the state of the breed.
