A friend of mine sent me this picture in an e-mail. I was rather startled to see the soldier with his gun trained on the dog and the decoy. Does anyone have any idea what country this picture might be from? They obvously take their training VERY seriously!

Wow, interesting picture!
Whats with the cage on his head....LOL
I can understand why he is using it, but it sure looks funny.

I might be wrong, but it appears that the rifle is aimed at the man in the suit  and not at the dog.  Perhaps this decoy isn't a volunteer??

maybe thats why that sleeve goes over his hands and has no holes for his hands... that sucks!

thats some serious training

Can't speculate as to the country, other than to guess somewhere in Latin America, perhaps...

That dog is definitely not being trained for sport, though!

Sunsilver,
I would surmise they are doing a demo and the soldier with the gun is part of the demo.  When we train we use 9MM simunition and the decoy is armed as well as the officers.  I have shot the decoy while my dog is en route to the bite and even when my dog has been on the bite.  If the decoy / bad guy doesn't drop his gun and comply, threatens to shoot or shoots we fire.  We always have  a cover officer even in training with a gun pointed out the decoy.  You fight the way you train and training must be very realistic.  In stressful situations you revert to your training.  My dog is trained that when heeling off lead if I drop to a knee or go prone he downs next to me.  I can discharge my weapon with my dog next to me and he will remain in a down, he is conditioned to the gun fire and remains neutral.

So, I don't see a problem with the picture.  I think it's either a demo or training.

Jim, thanks for your insights!

I didn't think there was anything wrong with the photo, though I WAS wondering if they were planning to shoot the dog if he wouldn't out, and started to do some serious damage to the decoy!  Of course, your explanation makes sense of it all.

BTW, the e-mail was titled "Jobs you DON'T want!"

Anna, where did you get your photo from? That's obviously the same style of bite suit!

I was thinking the cage on the head was to muzzle the decoy so he doesn't bite the dog back....
