Hello. I had a question about my 12 wk old German Shepherd puppy. In the picture below, you'll see that the areas around his nostrils are pink. I have seen some puppies with this on the internet, but basically I was wondering if this will fade away to black as he gets older? If not, is it considered a fault b/c I know the breed standard is pretty stringent about having a black nose? I plan on doing Schutzhund, so that is why I'm asking. Thanks.

edit: picture was giant

You'll probably find that it will blacken once spring gets underway... don't worry and good luck!

winter nose, not uncommon. Wait and see if it clears up.

in some bloodlines, puppies are born with pink noses, pink gums, white paw pads and light color toe nails.
typically it darkens up by the time the puppy is 6 months.

what is your puppy's pedigree?

What I see in this photo is absolutely nothing to be concerned about and I would not call it anything, including winter nose which normally affects a larger area of the nose on the outside surfaces. Most of what is pink here is internal and it may darken in time, or may not. Looks like a nice pup. Enjoy the pup!

I had two puppies with it, it turns black, no worries.

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it. He's a great puppy. I've already taught him sit, down, shake (as in hands, haha), stay, fetch, and release at 12 weeks -- some better than others. Redirecting play biting and getting him to allow handling (cleaning ears, clipping nails, etc.) without trying to play bite hands has been somewhat slower, but I'm very pleased so far. To answer your question about his pedigree...I'm not sure about the etiquette for mentioning kennels or whatnot. But I'll say both his parents are Schutzhund III and his father is VA. Here's some more pics at 12 weeks:
