My 3 months old GSD is having problem with his back legs. He is limping a bit. He is having rickets. Is rickets curable....???? if its curable how long it will take to cure......????

He doesn't have rickets, he has pano. Not to worry. Just limit his activity and he'll grow out of it. Some people give aspirin. Then do a search of this board or anywhere for Pano. It's kind of like "growing pains." You'll probably want to give your dog a lower protein dog food. Raw works pretty well for that.

Where do you live? And why do you say the puppy has ricketts? One possibility is panosteitis but the puppy is pretty young for it to show up now.  Depending on where you live and what you have been feeding the dog, it is not impossible that the dog really does have ricketts. If the dog does have such a condition, it is very, very important to get this fixed immediately so the dog is not crippled. We need more information before we can really make some suggestions. And yes, if you have photos, that would also help perhaps to put them here.

What are you feeding the dog? Rickets is caused by vitamin D deficiency. It can be as a result of feeding only muscle meat, with no supplements. This is why I am against raw or homemade diets, unless the person REALLY knows what they are doing!

my mum once rescued a 4 month dog with ricketts-a big dog with a lot of bone,he had hardly ever been out of the shed he was born in and front legs were bowed quite bad
a balanced diet and plenty of quiet time outside and he lived a long life with no problems

Lack of sunlight can cause rickets too. The rays of the sun help the body to manufacture vitamin D, but in the north in the wintertime, there's not enough sunshine to prevent Vitamin D deficiency.

If you would like help with your dog's diet and wonder if the limping is nutritional, please email me these things:

everything your dog gets to eat every day.  If it is a kibble dog food, the brand and a website info if it is one I do not know.
if you feed people food, ok, just tell me what and about how much

How long you have had your pup.  What the breeder fed too - very important.

Your pups age, weight and amount of exercise.

a picture sideways please

do you have well water ?

Happy to help.  I have a MS in animal nutrition and might be able to rule out anything nutritional for you.
Rickets is unlikely but not impossible.  There are other things to look for too.

I  rescued a litter with rickets a few years back.  some pups had it worse than others.  good diet  and plenty of sunshine and they slowly got better and didn't have any other issues.
