hi! i would like to know what is the neares inbreeding possible. is (2-3)alright or is it too near? thank you so much

by Do right and fear no one on 05 September 2006 - 01:09

The short answer is, the nearest possible is brother and sister, but that would be a really bad idea. I guess you mean what is the nearest and still be "okay". With a 2-3, you would highlight both the bad points and the good points. It can be used to heighten the chances of getting a certain "trait", like size or eye color but it will come with "baggage" like also increasing the chances of bad hips, bad temperment, bad whatever. Professionals do it fairly often but it would not be a good idea for a novice. It would not be the worst thing you ever did with GSD's but be carefull. If your reason for doing it is that it is the only stud available, then you should try harder to find another stud. If the reason is you want to get something special that only this mating will bring out, then it is "okay".

hehehe iam sorry, thats what i was trying to say. the nearest allowable by any governing body of the gsd breed. so 2-3 will be fine?

by Do right and fear no one on 05 September 2006 - 02:09

No, not fine. Just okay. It could be fine if you know what you are doing, but if you knew, you would not have been asking on this forum. Just my opinion. I am planing the same thing next spring. Good luck.
