What do you think you should do?

by DISISBJ on 29 January 2010 - 03:01

I'm not too sure, a part of me wants to train the pup but then again I also want to get a small breed for my kids.

If you don't have time to deal with a GSD pup then in my opinion you don't have time to deal a small breed pup for your kids.  It's all the same, get a pup and train it.   Just because it's a small breed does not mean that you're kids can do it.  Maybe I'm reading this wrong?  Am I?  Do you think if you get a small breed it will be any different?

I see what you mean,  I thought about that too; however, in my household my wife has nothing to do with our current gsd because of it being too big for her to handle witch is fine with me but like always I hear the nagging from the wife that her and the kids would much rather get a smaller breed. and this is why I was thinking about trading it for a smaller breed becasue if I do end up selling him I am sure I'll have another problem in buying a small breed... I guess it's a no win for me. hahaha

It sounds like a no win for the dogs.

Just doesn't smell right.

what does size of the dog have to do with "handleing" it? either she cant or wont, and if she cant she wont be able to handle many small breeds either,,except that you can pick them up when they dont listen.

Sell the pup to a home where he/she will be loved, trained and appreciated.  It sounds like the last thing you and your family needs is another GSD. It will be a real bad deal for everyone if you get that GSD pup, especially a bad deal for the pup because you are setting the pup up for failure by bringing it into a household where no one really wants it except for you and you won't be happy either when you come home to hear numerous complaints about the pup everyday. ARE YOU HAVING A GIRAFFE????!!!!!

This simple phrase should help 'No thanks'.

Why do you have to take it????? Just say 'thanks, but no thanks, it's not the right time for me'. What's the worst that can happen? The puppy could go to a great home from day one, and you stay out of the loop altogether. Oh my poor little head can't take this.

Do you have a pedigree on here for the pup? Can you tell us about the parents (OFA, what registry they are with, what kennel has the parents)
I definitely agree if you are not 100% comfortable with another GSD pup, you are wise enough to realize it. Also how old are your kids?
