I'm not a breeder but a stray bitch which is pregnant has started living outside my house. I used to give her Royal Canine dog food. But if she delivers her pups in my house I want to know what all diet etc should I give her as a pregnant bitch. Also what all can I do to make her delivery less bothersome. I will be contacting my local vet and ask him to give a visit. What else?? Please advise

She will look for a dark, quiet, comfortable place to deliver, So I would say if you can provide her with such then that would be a kind thing to do. A good quality food should suffice, Unless there are issues, like enemia, low calcium, things like that. That part should hold off until consult with vet can happen, But until then offer her a "Safe" environment for delivery. Best of luck !

I think you should try to get her indoors as the weather is getting much cooler depending where you are located and newborn puppies will not survive if left outdoors. I would consult vet about getting her on a good puppy food that will help her with milk production and also have her checked for worms. I think the 1st thing you need to do is get her indoors immediatley and set up a nice warm spot for her to have the pups and make sure that she is medically sound to have puppies

At this point you should be feeding her puppy food ( and Royal Canin Large Breed puppy food would be a good food) and perhaps adding some vitamins. It might really also be good to find someone more experienced to help you or to give the dog to so that she can get someplace where she can prepare to have the pups safely. Then the issue is what to do about the puppies, if any, and there will be a lot of expense involved in caring for her and the pups properly. A good vet, or even a no kill shelter may be a consideration if you are unable to do this. Also, start looking for her owner. She may have a microchip or a tattoo, or a tag on a collar. Who knows what the pups will be as far as mixed or whatever. Good luck.

Hodie makes a good point. if the female is a purebreed then she may have a tatto in the ear or a microchip? where are you located?

phew!!! finally we managed to save all the six puppies. One of them had got some maggots due to the dirt but we managed to get it treated from the vet who was kind enough to pay a visit. The puppies are now a month old and doing fine. Have to take them for distemper and rabies shots soon. This particular bitch is a pie. Just came and started living outside our house. There is no tatto etc. She is a mongrel.
