I believe that he is still alive and lives in China with a wealthy businessman. You can search the messagelist, as I saw it poted quite some time ago.

Last I heard, he had returned from Italy after a stay there and was back in Germany.

I hope Ursus is being treated like a normal dog, rather then being used as a trophy.
