Hi Mo;

Best of luck with your event and I hope it well attended and successful.

Just a note though; it is not the first UK Koerung- this was held under the auspices of the GSD Breed Council and British Schutzhund Association (BSA) on 27th June 1998. It was hosted by the West Yorkshire GSD Club at the club grounds of  BSA club White Rose SCH Club. I attended with the at the time BSA British National Schutzhund Champion Vorhanden Jeck SCH3, (Link to an article about Jeck; http://www.southcheshireschutzhundclub.co.uk/images/articles/vorhanden%20jeck/vorhanden%20jeck.htm)   PS; the small child hugging the dog you may regognise as my son Jamie, who was the short work helper at this year's GSD League Working Group National Championships - he is now 6'4"!

Jeck was given the Grade "One" by Surveyor Terry Hannan. Jim Jackson (Then BSA Judge, currently WUSV GSDL SCH Judge) officated over the Working Test.

Jeck's best SchHIII scores were as below;:
a) 95 b) 92 c) 97 (284) 19/11/95 Bobby Behan 1st Place White Rose Trial
a) 98 b) 90 c) 98 (286) 16/06/96 Wim van Dijk 1st Place White Rose Trial
a) 98 b) 94 c) 95 (287) 23/03/97 Eric Roberts/ Bobby Behan/ Chris Bell 1st Place BSA Inter Regional Championships
a) 96 b) 94 c) 94 (284) 20/04/97 Louis Vanderpoel Welsh Nationals
a) 99 b) 88 c) 97 (285) 06/09/97 Her Gunter Voss 1st Place White Rose Trial

I am not grabbing bragging writes here; I mention it primarily to counter the opinion vocalised by some on this board (notably one or two cyberjockies from the States) that the UK remains in the GSD Pleistocene...

Cheers and good luck again;

Chris

Chris good for you!!!!   Penny, good luck with your event.

by Penny on 26 November 2009 - 16:11

Many thanks both for your good wishes.

Chris, sorry, it sounds misleading the way I have put it, what I am meaning to get over is the point that this is the first UK Koerung whereby it will go on to paperwork for your dog by the SV - which is important to people showing their dogs.  Mostly, other than a few real dedicated folk, we have all sent our dogs to Germanyto get their Keorung, BH AD and Sch.h. qualifications, and what we are aiming at with this start, is that people get to work their own dogs, and qualified SV / WUSV judges are brought over to get the qualification which will count in Europe too.
Right now - for people showing on the continent, even gaining a title in the UK or a Koreung isnt counted by the SV.  It has to be gained under SV qualified Koremeister - or in the case of the BH & Sch.h. title a WUSV judge.

Flip its complicated.  As anyone can hear, this is new ground for me - she that only ran her dogs around in ever-decreasing circles before working them came to mind -but I have to say, I have been so encouraged by all the people currently working their dogs, and their helpful atittudes - and even though I`m not experienced or good at it I am enjoying seeing our dogs come on, and really enjoy themselves.

I`m wondering why I didnt do it years ago, as the dogs get so much pleasure doing it.  You only realise that your dog is worth more than circling at week-ends when you take on working them too.  Chris, I hope you will come down at the week-end and I dont consider you are bragging, but I certainly would if my dog and I had done all that - very well done.

Hi Mo;

Thanks for the invite; might make the Koerung in March, but we have a Trial at the Club with Eric Roberts judging the weekend of the 13th, unfortunately.

Glad that you are enjoying working your dogs and you are getting good help and advice.

I am aware of the problems that you are experiencing re what is "WUSV approved" (ie acceptable in Europe) in the context of showing- I am aware that the GSDL is also trying to clarify things at this moment in time. To people purely interested in attending WUSV/FCI International Working Championships etc this has not in the past been a major issue- (and both GSDL and BAGSD now have WUSV approved SCH judges) but it is becoming one as a consequence of the concern of our members with duel interests. I hope the situation becomes clearer in the near future.

Anyway, best of luck with your event on 13th- I am sure you will enjoy.

Cheers Chris

Hi Chris,

And to all  -  our event is not on 13th YOURS IS  -  glad you suffer from my disease sometimes, but needed that clarified in case people get dates wrong..

There is no doubt at all, that at the Koerung and other trials we are doing n 19/20/21st March 2010 that there is qualificiation for show people to be able to take up (providing their dog fulfils the criteria of course) and be recognised by SV on paper - thats why we are doing it.  Alyson and Carol, during their seminar on 12th December, will go through the criteria, the tests and answer any questions, so it will be invaluable for folk just starting out, as well as for folk not wanting to take their dogs and leave on the continent, for say Leibenzeit if they are within the time scale of the requirements.

Glad you will try to get down here, and any other advice you can give me, I will be pleased to hear - Cheers   Mo.
