1) Alexs coat. He started off almost solid black now he seems to be getting in alot of light tan and silver hair. I was curious if he would continue to get lighter or maybe darken up again. I know it is impossible to know for sure, I am just asking for opinions.
2) I always assumed Molly would be a long haired GSD like her mother but I see other dogs photos on this forum you have said are stock coats. Is Molly a long haired GSD or a stock coat GSD? Also, her hair seems to be getting longer again at her spine and rump. At what age will her hair 'pick' a length? The recent photo of molly isnt the greatest I snapped it the other day while she was working with my husband.
thanks!

Molly is a long stock coat...for sure, her coat "length & texture" will change a couple times as she grows, but should "mature" out at about 14 mos-15mos old. She will (should) have an adult looking coat by then, and your male is a black & tan stock coat. He has very nice dark pigment.
He will get more tan as he matures, but he will remain a very nice pigmented dog.....he should anyway.
Best wishes to you & your dogs!

Huh, stock coat... LOL I guess i always assumed that since Molly had that Uber fluffy, long soft coat she was long haired. As a pup she was so fluffy nobody believed she was a GSD we used to call her Molly the Collie! So, what is the difference between a long haired GSD and a stock coat?
Also, Here are a few face shots of Molly as requested She used to have some thin crimped hairs similar to the ones you see under her ears sticking out of her ears but, those and a bunch of hair between the pads of her feet and toes are trimmed off regularly. The hair under her still floppy ear is also trimmed ever since a local breeder told me the extra hair could be slowing that ear coming up again...
BTW, she is a tad wet in these photos from the lovely New England weather :P

I really did misunderstand that! LOL
My mother bred all kinds of different dogs over the years: Basset hounds, Dachshunds, Dobermans and Rotts but, none of them were like my fathers GSD. So, when I bought my own home I convinced my husband to look at the GSD breed and he fell in love.
We did research on the breed to determine what kind of GSD would fit with us best and how to care for it. Unfortunately, the finer details such as terminology has eluded us thus far. Actually, that is why we started reading this forum to learn the more detailed information about the breed. We bought Leerburg videos for training techniques but, now we need to learn the breed specifics....
I am glad to see that I was not crazy thinking Molly had a Long coat! Also, thanks for the compliment!
