not much to go by how old were the pups when they died? were there birthing problems? what were their weights? how many days after mating was the birth? how old is the bitch? plus a whole lot of questions more. Could be canine herpes (only shows if pups were not frozen to perserve for necropsy). Could be pups were in birth canal too long. Pups could have been premature. Mother had no milk. Pups not nursing properly. Pups getting too cold. Infection. Some developmental issues. Vaccination reaction. Lots of possibilities. Sounds like they were older already. What were they tested for? What were they negative for? Please next time write in a way that is easier to understand not all jumbled up. And give more details.

anyone with any ideas

by EchoMeadows on 28 August 2006 - 21:08

I'm assuming both Bitch and Sire were brucellosis tested before the mating ?

I am sorry to here your puppys died many years ago my friend had a litter of 9 puppys all went well with birth the puppys started to die at 7 days old so she took all the puppys and mother to vet the vet said the bitch had infection in her milk and to keep puppys away from the mother for 5 days my friend done this and bottled feed the puppys after 5 days put the puppys back with the mother and all went well the 6 puppys that remained lived good luck with your female and your next litter

shoestring thank for the reply they are not my pups but a friend of mine but i will let her know however i am thinking maybe that was mastitis that would cause the infection in the milk ? which the female was checked for that all seemed ok and yes both dogs had there burcellosis test done even though this was the same pair that did it before and 1- healthy pups became of that litter and the male and female had not been used between that time

by verrückte Hunde on 29 August 2006 - 00:08

How awful! I would first suspect a bacteria variety of mastitus... harder to diagnose with "basic" testing. So sorry for your frustrating heartbreak. Shelley
