I am looking to buy a female in the future, and I have been looking at Imports vs. buying in the States.  I want a deep red female, with nice bone structure, and working ability.  Would like for her hips/elbows to be certified and possibly some titles.  About what am I looking at spending??  I am looking around January-February will be my purchase time.  Any info is very much appreciated... Thanks, Liz

You didn't specify age, or if you want a proven brood bitch, but you are looking at $4-5k and up depending on age, titles and conformation- Theresa

You can spend what ever you want from $1000 for average  pup to $100 000 or more. But forst, I think, you need to figure out what you really want. Show or work. What is more important to you. Show dog with some working abilities or good looking working abilities. In my book, for example, show is a 4 letter word. Please keep in mind that the GSD dog is a WORKING DOG  and not a show dog. Please educate your self better about the breed and then vote with your dollar for the right right type of a dog. That is the type  which will promote the breed in what it was originally intended. Remember if the GSD is bred for narrow specific reason like show or sport then that does to the breed disservice.

German Shepherd is a versatile  WORKING DOG.

Please keep that in your mind.
 For the sake of the GSD breed.

Theresa,
I was figuring on spending about $3-4 k, I am not sure about the age/titles as of yet, but would like one to be out of the puppyhood stage, I am getting a pup in about 3 weeks, and I really don't want to raise two young pups at the same time.  I am not sure about importing, who do you trust???  As the same in the States, I think I will prefer to go see the dog and it's abilities. Thanks for the input...

Prager,
I am very well educated on the breed, I have owned and raised shepherds for over 15 years now, but my preference is the show with working abilities, yes they do exist...  =)  I have owned & currently own 2 working line dogs, and honestly they are alot to handle.  Now, I don't want a roachback dog, I do have limits...  But I do like a nice looking Black & red showline dog...  They seem to fit my family & life style more easily.  I always keep the working ability in my top preferences, the shepherd is a working dog indeed...

Thanks... =)
Liz
