What size whelping box for a GSD do you feel is best and why?

by alaman on 16 September 2009 - 01:09

four by four because it allows her to move around and not lay on the puppies.while having plenty of room to feed them.

by SitasMom on 16 September 2009 - 02:09

Is there a supplier of these boxes in the US?

If you check out the DuraWhelp website they have the dimensions for the right size whelping box on their site. I bought 1 from there not too long ago, but it cost a fortune too!!! You would be better off just having one made with those dimensions, and the puppy rails. The box itself is a very good size for the mother and her pups, and gives you enough room to get in there with them if needed. I think their website is www.durawhelp.com but don't quote me on it.

Not sure, they have been taken over by another much lager company although they still trade under canine kennels, might be worth an email to see

I had a home made one one for years, 4x4 and made from 1x12 shelving board. Had a safety rail (2x2) about 4-6 inches up.

My favorite was a kiddie pool from Wal Mart. Very easy and quick to clean.

I used a rubber bottom or indoor/outdoor carpet which can be changed out and cleaned daily.

Newspaper absorbs well, just doesn't provide a lot of traction for pups.

Good luck,

Rik
