Just curious, what breeds of dogs are companions to your German Shepherds you own? Are they a good compliment to each other? If a breeder, do you breed any other breeds? How do they compare to each other? Any other info that's fun to share about your doggy family?

I have 15 GSDs (I do rescue, training, boarding, breeding, importing), and 1 bernese mtn dog. She is the one to bark most if someone comes within site of the playyard. Her bark is very different from the German Shepherds, and her play style is different as well. She's *very* tolerant of puppy antics and stays out of any dominance displays. She is definately not a people pleasing dog and has a stubborn side. We sure love her, but a kennel full of bernese mtn dogs will never happen!

We have one rescue boxer in addition to the GSD's, talk about a totally oposite personality! Total goofy retard, loves everyone and everything, loves taking a toy in his mouth, letting one of the sheps take it and drag him all over the yard :) He is the only dog I have that all the other dogs like, he has no enemies :) I took him with the condition that we would find him a home, well he found one and we wouldn't dream of getting rid of him now! He is also a great puppy socializer, lets the pups grab his ears, lips, legs, he loves it, lol!

My three German Shepherds share their house with 3 parrots. A Blue and Gold Macaw, an african Gray and a love bird. The birds can and do distinguish each dogs bark and chastise them accordingly for barking.
The dogs even receive commands from the birds , complete with the praise of "good dog". LOL

We recently added a Papillon to our family of 6 GSD's. He certainly is fun!! Sometimes little too sily to be in the space of a dominant, non-toy-sharing GSD....they all don't appreciate his antics. But a few here are also quite charmed with him. I can't wait to have a litter of pups to introduce him too...that should be fun!! Although he is currently still intact, due to his breeder's request, I can't see adding a female here for him to enjoy any time soon, as there is only so much of me to go around. The GSD's are my priority...my husband as taken over the Papillon. LOL!

We have a boston terrier, and a poodle. Along with our German Shepherds. The boston is the boss, and bite their ankles constantly. The poodle justlikes to snuggle up in Shepherd bellies and take a nap and to kiss the puppies. We also have 3 bunnies that are not chew toys but loved doggie friends. We as well have 2 cockateils that think it is funny to whistle for the dogs.

I have 3 German Shepherds that share their home with a Pembroke Welsh Corgi and 4 Persian cats, and sometimes kittens. In the yard outside they live with misc chickens, and 2 outdoor cats that believe they are dogs too. As they were raised by the Corgi. The Corgi rules the roost.
I have wonderful pictures of Emma "The Corgi" nursing her kittens. Email me if your interested in seeing them.

May I just respond with what I WISH I had? :-) I would LOVE to have a little "nanny dog", as they are called-- a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. NOT the American Staffordshire, but the English staffy. Great little atheletic smart dogs, big dogs in little muscular dog bodies. Great with children! I would just love to see a scrappy 35 pound Staffy doing Schutzhund protection work. All we have besides GSDs right now is a cat who tolerates the dogs. Even dogs who have never been around a cat can learn to respect the household feline. Pups raised with Fluffy (named after the three headed dog in "Harry Potty") think he's just family.

Hello,
Yep, I have owned and bred Golden Retrievers for 6 years now, and any Shepherds I have had in that time have ALWAYS loved them! It amazes me, the Goldens could always teach the Shepherds something, and vise versa! The shepherd remained a shepherd even after being raised with Goldens it's whole life! I have heared that Shepherds will sometimes eat the litters of other dogs. But my Shepherds have NEVER done this, matter of fact, with TOTAL hawk eyes watching, they'd go in the whelping box and lay with the puppies when mom was off taking a potty break. The puppies loved the shepherds, and in time the shepherds were developing mothering skills, such as cleaning up after the puppies, and licking each one of them clean. I can think of my last shepherd when I write this. I had to sell her at 7 months, as she had a TERRIBLE overbite, and needless to say I wont be buying from that breeder again, but she was so sweet with those puppies I think she missed them more than mom did when they finally went to new homes. She was about 4 months when the puppies were born, just to give you an idea how gentle she was.
