Today, we (myself and 2 other teachers) took a group of students to a nature center for an educational program and to hike some trails.  While we were on the trail, we encountered a woman with her dog (pit bull mix) that was off leash.  The dog charged us, hackles up, growling.  The woman had absolutely no control over her dog.  One of the students tried to call the dog and approach it (did not realize it was an aggressive dog).  I was near the student and told her to stop and stay still.  The dog approached a male teacher, growling and snapped at his leg, but did not bite him.  The woman who owned the dog meanwhile was calling it and chasing it.  She told us to be still because her dog bites.  She finally caught a hold of the dog's collar and got a leash on it.  I can't get over how irresponsible some people are!   She brought an aggressive dog to a public place that runs educational programs for kids and to top it off, had it off leash!  Not to mention that she has no control over her dog!  We are thankful no one was bitten.

There never seems to be a shortage of idiots is there?
I have the same problem in my area with a dolt that owns a shepherd/lab mix that she "thinks" is friendly. But any dog that  charges you with hackles up and teeth bared is no friend of mine. And we have a leash law that she ignores, even though we have had words over her dog. Some day she's gonna meet a dog that will tear her dog up and she will think its the other dogs fault.
I hate stupid people!
Glad to hear none of your students were injured. We can only hopw the dog bites her.

keep some bear spray with you whenever you go to such places...... it sprays up to 35' and will stop a dog in its tracks.

once the dog is disarmed, get photo of owner screaming at you and dog and report it to the park rangers....

this type of owner and/or dog should be blacklisted.

Unfortunately a stupid owner like that will just get another dog after her's is euthanized for biting someone and she will think "oh whoa is me, people just don't understand and are so mean".
