Hey all, looking for some input on how you aquired/got permission for use of your training fields. Our training field we used a majority of the time was just let go into a hay field by the city and we are now looking for a new location to train. Was wondering how you all went about finding places to train, what types of venues or parks you found and how you went about getting permission to use them. Thanks in advance for any input.

"Bdetter to ask for forgiveness then permission" :-)
Most of the time I train at public parks (either solo or with a club). I have just as much right to use public parks as anyone else so I don't ask for permission. I like baseball fields because they're fenced /secure. My dogs
are under control at all times. I cliean up after them and maintain a good relationship with the grounds keepers
(who I see practically every day).
Where are you located and what sport do you train?
What do you mean by "let go into a hay field by the city"? Is the City or leasee actually growing hay or did they just stop mowing? If the training field is otherwise OK then maybe one of the club members could mow the field
once a month

A trainer friend of mine asked the city if they had an out of the way field we could use for a dog training club. He got some K-9's to speak for us.........
They gave us a beautiful soccer field in the middle of the biggest park in the city.
Its first come first serve, but the natives know that Friday nights are dog training and don't even try anymore. They enjoy watching and some have brought their dogs for OB.

We train on one of the soccer fields at a private school on Sunday mornings. Had to put them on our insurance policy and put in a dog waste station. Also, have to change our training day on occasion to accommodate school activities but it has worked out great for several years now.

I just recently got my girl we are driving a couple hours from home to a training facility that she previously went to for training on Saturday. I also am looking into another trainer that is a bit closer for training purposes. Once i have more training into her i will probably see if there are people in my area that would like or are looking for a practice area...i have ten acres and love learning new things and watching other dogs work as well so i see it as a learning and social experience and i am sure others would as well. Maybe there is someone in your area that has property that might do the same. Just a thought

I'm very lucky, having 4 different farms to train on, as long as livestock is not interfeared with all the farmers are more than happy to allow us to train, so now i can lay tracks and search squares to my hearts content, also handy that the farmers all have GSD's and sometimes come and join in with training. I also live near Army(mod) land so i have many Ranges that i can train on too
