SOLAR ACTIVITY INTENSIFIES: Huge sunspot AR1476 is crackling with M-class solar flares and appears to be on the verge of producing something even stronger. The sunspot's 'beta-gamma-delta' magnetic field harbors energy for X-class flares, the most powerful kind. Earth is entering the line of fire as the sunspot rotates across the face of the sun.

SUNSPOT SUNSET: Sunspot AR1476 is so large, people are noticing it without the aide of a solar telescope. The behemoth appears at sunrise and sunset when the light of the low-hanging sun is occasionally dimmed to human visibility. Alberto Lao sends this picture from Manila, the Phillippines:
"The sky was hazy and a bit cloudy today, [perfect for sunspot photography]," says Lao. "Hoping to get a glimpse of AR 1476, I waited until a few minutes before sunset to try to image the sun. My patience was rewarded."
The sunspot looks a lot like Hawaii, but it is much bigger than any island on Earth. From end to end the sprawling active region stretches ~160,000 km, or a dozen times wider than our entire planet. If you have a sunspot telescope, take a look. The view is magnificent.
Caution: Even when the sun is dimmed by clouds and haze, looking into the glare can damage your eyes. Looking through unfiltered optics is even worse. If you chose to photograph the low sun with a digital camera, please use the camera's LCD screen for pointing. Do not peer through the optical viewfinder.

"Imagine large cities without power for a week, a month, or a year," Baker said. "The losses could be $1 to $2 trillion, and the effects could be felt for years."
Seems to me we've been getting those type of storms already, via Hurricanes and Halloween snow storms in good ol' New England. If it does demolish the aged powergrid, when they rebuild it, I want everything to be UNDERGROUND.
Thanks for listening whoever is in charge of the rebuild.

As far as I'm concerned, BRING IT !! I'm ready to go without electricity for years. Primitive is my middle name. LOL
Seriously, there was another solar flare reported by NASA this week ... I think it hit Earth yesterday because I had a terrible headache. I rarely get headaches.

Also a lot depends on what it is your trying to survive.
These preparers will make fine resources for those who will be looking for just such a place to exploit.
Everyone has a plan until they've been hit, it's what you do next that will determine your fate.
Being mobile or staying put depends on what it is you'll be dealing with, be ready for either one or both.
There is no manual for surviving certain situations, plan on being on your own and using your own wits, survival of the fittest does not mean what you might think.
You must have the will to survive in order to make the choices you may have to make.
Reality is that the system will fail you, and you will have conflict with other humans, everything will be new to you and unpredictable, there will be fear, uncertainty, and probably pain of one kind or another.
Do not be the predator or the prey but find the middle ground, you'll live longer.
Find water first, then shelter, then food. Having water and protecting yourself from the elements, along with other obvious dangers take priority over eating.
The wealthy will not inherit the earth, neither will the strongest, the survivors will be those with the wits and will to overcome the challenges they will face.
Finally,
pray if you like, but do it after you have seen to your own needs and safety, and do unto others whenever possible.
Just be ready to do another, if the situation calls for it.
Moons.
