Would it be possible that Breeders ask potential new Owners how they intend to house-train their puppy? Then give more appropriate advice if needed. Or at least raise this idea, in order to ensure the new Owner has knowledge of what to do (and not to do).
I am sure some Breeders give written advice, but having a chat about it, may help the new Owner immensely - (as a Trainer, I know a brief conversation about this area of training, as been much appreciated, and given an Owner reassuance and encouragement.

some know it all so called trainer from I do not know where, would say Oh no do this..rub their nose and swat them with a newpaper or throw a chain at them and scare the (&*(&*(* out of them when you see them pee or poop
Never in my born days has that done the job ..NO cattle prods needed either to potty train a puppy.
Thanks for your post. GOOD subject.

PATIENCE and CONSISTENCY. I had an Egg Timer in EVERY room of the house. Every 2 hours, he went out. Didn't matter if it was raining, snowing, blowling like Hurricane Gussy, as an owner, I dressed appropriately and took him out. On those scant times when he had an accident due to me not waking up, know who I punished? Not Beau...I know it wasn't HIS fault.
Potty training a puppy doesn't have to be the hellish event people make it out to be, but that being said, I AM home during the days, whereas someone who works during the day probably would have to get creative, and naturally understand and expect that in an 8hour span, puppies have to potty.
In short, you can read all the potty-training books you'd like but if you don't follow the advice IN the books, or you don't maintain consistency while training, you can't blame anyone when the training falls short of expectations.

I always assumed that it would be common sense that the nose rubbing wouldn't work. This is probably the topic that made me realize what we think is common sense is NOT. That is also prob the question people ask me the most, especially when they have been doing it and of course the dog is not house trained and when they take it out it won't go potty but as soon as they take it inside it goes somewhere unspervised and goes. They are totally shocked when I ask why they would expect the dog to go in front of them, the last time it did you shoved it's nose in it, smacked it and tossed it outside. Hell I wouldn't pee in front of you either.

(Could it have been possible that the dog's bed was made up of those tiny little Polypropylene Beads, that may have attracted your cat to enjoy kneading it. Then unfortunately the feel while kneading, had the effect of feeling like cat litter - which inspired the cat to wee)?

I do agree 100% that puppies are not at the dominating stage to use their urine to mark...
