This is eating away at me. I recently bought a young Shepherd advertised on this web site. We were lied-to, overcharged and scammed. But what's even worse, what bothers me the most is the condition the dog was in when he arrived. We were told the dog weighed 102 lbs. When he came out of the crate I was shocked. He looked emaciated. He has the frame for maybe a 90-95 lb. dog. He weighed 74 lbs! ( he is a year and 8 months old). He had a spot on his cheek, about the size of a U.S. .50 cent coin that was full of scabs and hairless (and it stunk). The tips of his ears were hairless and scabbed over (from the tip to about 3/4 of an inch down), he had a small spot on the top of his head, (about the size of a pea) that is hairless and looks like an old wound or dog bite. When I had asked the breeder what was wrong with him, the reply was: "There is nothing wrong with him". I feel we rescued this poor animal just in time. But when was the last time somebody paid $1850 (including shipping and a crate) for a rescue dog? We will bring him back to good health and keep him because he is a good dog, deserving of a good home, and we will give him one. Although the money issue bothers me, what is really bothering me is: What if this breeder has other dogs in this condition and is selling them for top money as good prospects? Shouldn't I worry about those dogs? What about other people, (maybe one of you?) who might get taken? I would like to splatter this breeder's name, the kennel, and all three websites she has, all over the internet. Obviously, in this lawsuit-happy country I would probably wind up paying thru the nose if I did this. The kennel is across the country so I can't go see the other dogs for myself, and if this was the only one that was being mis-treated then I open myself up even further. I would sure like to hear your comments/suggestions.

If what you are saying is true you won't have to be worried about getting sued. What did the vet say about the dogs condition? Did you request pictures of the dog when you were making this decision? How about references? Glad to hear the dog is in a caring home.

What I'm interested in is, as the topic says what should be my next step. Consider it a hypothetical situation if you have to, to answer in that fashion, although everything I have stated are facts. Yes, of course we requested a picture, and there was a picture on this board with the ad as well as the pedigree. The vet found a urinary tract infection (but any dog can get that) yes, he's underweight, yes the scars are from fights, yes the scabs are probably from insect bites and/or fights. As I said everything I've stated is factual, but I strongly disagree with gottagsd about not having to worry about being sued. Since when does being truthful and righteous prevent you from being sued?

If you have done nothing wrong and what you say is true, why would it cost you so much money? Like I said glad to hear he got a good home, you should go back to the breeder with your issues, and vet information. Hoe long have you had him?

We've had him a couple of weeks. I did go back to the breeder. She claimed she wasn't aware of the scabs on his cheek or the old bite on his head. As for the scabs on the ears, she says those were from flies biting on him. As far as the discrepancy in the weight, she claims her vet confused her. On one visit he said the dog weighed 102 and on another visit the vet said he weighed 76 lbs! She also said she was shipping the AKC papers the day after she shipped the dog. Two weeks later, haven't received them. At this point she won't answer e-mails because I told her what I thought of her shenanigans. She also said we would pay for the dog, the shipping and the crate. I agreed. Then, at the last minute she adds her visit to the vet, the gas to drive to the airport and overcharges for the shipping (although I did get the difference in the shipping returned-under protest). Does this sound like a credible or responsible breeder to you?

I recently just got out of a situation myself, and I can tell you that publicity can help pave the way for you. Or it can help keep it from happening to someone else!

Please what is the name or web site?

Spend $50 and ask a lawyer. Since you have spent $1800 for a year and a half old dog. You never said what you bought the dog for. That price would be ok, but a might high, for an excellent working puppy prospect but at 1.5 years, you should have been able to see some potential and then the price would have been more. Didn't you see a red flag on that alone. I would only buy a dog I can see in person. Did you take the dog right to the vet? Doggman
