I have a 4month Boerboel male pup, he and my older Lab female play the whole day, but obviously he still has high energy.

I do take him for walks daily, for about 30mins. I have read however, that too much is also not good, about how much SHOULD we be doing? He does not at all seem tired during or after the walk, and it seems he would keep going for a lot longer (or go running even) if he got the chance, but I want to be careful for his joints.

Any ideas on how much to do, and still get some energy gone?

1. Do not overfeed him.
2. He does not need a lot of exercise till about 9 - 11 months of age. Walking about a block twice a day should be good enough. 15 min at a time is good enough.
3. At this age, he needs activity and socialization more than exercise. So taking him to different places is better. And then give him something to chew on. A raw bone or a kong toy etc.
4. You can do a little training under a professional guidence.

At this age they are like 6 yr olds and they never get tired no matter what you do. So keeping them busy with activity is better. All the best.

Thanks!

He is indeed getting the amount of food the vet prescribed for us, so he should be good there :) And he does have some rawhides, but he chews through them (no matter what shapes) very fast, and I'm sceptic of giving him too much as some information also states that it's not too good for them to ingest too much. I try and keep it to an hour or so every day, but even then he chews quite a lot of it.

Activities sound great, but besides taking him to play with some other people and dogs, and some tug-o-war and playing, what other things can I try?

I just need some more ideas so neither of us get bored :)

I would quit the rawhide and switch to Raw meaty bones.  Soup bones are a great place to start and you can get them right from the butcher or lots of stores keep them in big bags in the freezer section.  They are cheap cheap.  I like them cut in to 4" or so lengths it is just the right size for them to get a good grip on and they can still lick out all of the marrow which is good for them.
