I just got my GSD puppy, shes 3 months old. We came up with Holly as her called name. Now she is very energetic, and has bonded close to me. One word to describe her is locura (insaine). Shes a beautiful puppy and we've had her almost a week now.
Now I want to fill out her AKC paperwork and theyre asking for her AKC name. I want something german, but i dont speak german.
Her parents names are Rustus Von Hinrichs and Tassie Vom Kalkstein. I have called up the AKC and they told me that none of those names are registered kennel names.
I honestly have no clue what to name her on paper. Please help!

Is there some sort of landscape feature that is unique to where you live? Like a meadow, mountain, stream? Often the German's use those to create their kennel names. So it could be something like Holly of the Twin Peaks.... but in German.
Good luck with your cutie girl! I love the name Holly by the way, if I had a girl, that would have been my first choice.

You should ask the person you bought the dog from, the pup may already have a name or it should carry as it's last name the kennel that owned the litter. Do not use the parent's names unless the parent's name is the same as the kennel that owned your litter. Also check your contract as the name may be there. I or someone else can give you a lot more info, I thought to give you a little info quickly but can give more. Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your pup.

You contacted the AKC and they have no record of the kennel names of the parents? That would raise huge red flag for me. Did the breeder give you the AKC registration information and litter number? The parents have to be registereed in order for you to register your pup, and the breeder would have had to have registered the birth of the litter, then either they, or you, do individual registration.
I am concerned that the AKC has no record of the parents. This would be a problem for me.
ETA: a quick search of the parents on the database pulls up nothing for me either.

I must be confused then. Does the breeder not register their kennel name and then register all puppies with dog name followed by or preceded by the kennel name. Same kennel name for all dogs bred by that breeder?
Or can someone with 2 akc dogs breed them and have ten puppies and register each puppy with a completely different name, no common denominater in a litter of ten puppies, and never register a kennel name as a Breeder??? How the heck do you trace dogs back to a breeder then? I mean usually a kennel name is a common thread. My girl is from Siegerhof so I know anytime I come across a Siegerhof dog I know they all trace back to the same place.

Registering a kennel name with the AKC is far, far, far different than registering dogs with your chosen kennel name.
number 1, it's just an option, not a requirement.
number 2, there are a LOT of things that have to be completed by the breeder within AKC guidelines before being allowed to register a kennel name.
number 3, it would take a loooong time before most good breeders can fulfill those AKC requirements.
number 4, some things aren't even within a breeder's control. (when it comes to registering the kennel name they've already been using for a long time)
number 5, the vast majority of breeders who register their dogs with AKC will never register their kennel names because of all the hoops they'd have to jump through (even in just picking the name)

So Jeremy, call your pup's breeder, find out what their kennel name is and if you're allowed to use it for registering your pup. If they don't have one or you're not given permission then come up with your own 'kennel' name. This could be your last name or something else.

Yes. That's entirely possible.

Thanks Emoore. I had no idea. I imagine that would make it difficult for a breeder to keep track of their dogs over the course of the dogs life. Surely it is easier when all puppies share a common thread. On the same note I suspect that the majority of breeders don't follow up on their puppies so in the end it probably doesn't matter much in those cases. Sadly.
