Ok, my Shepherd has apparently decided that a blue stuffed squeeky dog toy is now her baby. She's gone from attacking this thing a few months ago and squeeking the hell out of it, to barely grabbing it, carrying it around, licking it, and whining. I'm pretty sure she thinks it's her baby, even though she's never been bred before. Anything like this happen with you guys?

Has she recently had a heat cycle. My girls act really funny when they are around their heat cycle.

She had a heat cycle back in Feb. She's been acting really weird the past two weeks though.
And yes, I'm definately cutting back on her TV. No Teen Mom, that's a bad influence.

Pseudopregnancy pregnancy. They do not need to be bred for this to happen. She may meat and lactate as well. My understanding is to not to try to change the behaviour but to just let it run it's course.

Sounds like false pregnancy - let her have her toy for 6 more weeks and then take it away and leave it away. She should be back to normal by then.

we have a 4 year old maltese that does the same thing after every heat cycle. she picks up the same toy and carries it around like her baby. she lays the toy down and then lays next to it as if feeding it. she also licks it as if grooming a puppy. she will walk up to you with the toy in her mouth and whine as if asking for help. my wife puts her and her toy on our bed surrounded by pillows and she just lays there taking care of it. she has never been bred.
