To All: Beware of Orlando Castenada (Trainer in Dade City, Fl) - Page 1

This guy is a total rip off. He will take your dog and try to soak you for your money. He will only contact you when he wants money. You will never be able to reach him. He avoids your calls. I had to go and get my dog because I suspected that he wasn't training her and he wasn't. She was also malnourished to the point that I could see her ribs and rump. He does not do anything you ask him to do and he is a compulsive liar. He takes the money for shots and medication and does not get them for the dog. So beware. This guy is very dishonest and a disgraceful trainer.

That's most trainers for you. Out of everyone who claims to be trainers, a very small amount of them are actually honest and do a great job. Thanks for the warning.

Hey now, that's not being fair to the dog training community.  You stated that a small amout of us are honest and do a great job.  I strongly disagree.  Alot of us take losses, spend extra time and do a darn good job.  Most of us send the dogs home in great condition ( often times in show condition and looking great).   Considering what we get sent it is a small miracle that we still have all our limbs.  Dogs than have been out of the kennel once in their lives, dogs that have never seen a bathtub, car or leash.  Owners that send you a dog without a hope of titling ( that is out of current amazing zillion dollar stud so the dog MUST be amazing too), fear biters etc. Alot of owners even lose their checkbooks come payday. Can't even count the number of dogs I have had dumped come payday, do you know how hard it is to rehome a dog that a person has dumped and how much it costs me in legal preceeding to finally be able to find the poor dog a new home.    Honestly we do not get paid enough, thankfully it is what I love to do. Makes it worth it in the end.  While Orlando Castenada may have mad this poster unhappy there are often two sides to a story.  Not all dog trainers are con artists, MOST of us work darn darn hard for our dollars and are paid very very little for the hours we put in.  Now everyone go hug your trainers :)

Buddy57, sorry to hear about this, but not all trainer's are bad. I hope your girl gets better, and

that you can hook up with a "real" trainer that can make you happy & teach you & her what you

were looking for    :)

Keep your chin up, maybe you can take her to a trainer with private lesson's?

GREAT RESPONSE brynjulf  At first I thought that good trainers ARE hard to find then after your post I thought really many of us are good honest people who train dogs and there are probably more of us then of him.

So Buddy57 we are out there in numbers. Post on the board looking for trainer and Im sure a good honest trainer will come forward.

I agree with Brynjulf!  My trainers actually started a club in my area and donate their time to all dogs that come out.  Each dog has a different level of potential but these trainers (who also work full time jobs) are so gracious and informative that it is unbelievable!  I have had dealings with a very bad "trainer" and a trainer that did not quite know what to do with my dog.  The bad trainer was very bad and wanted paid to watch my dog play with a kong ball (she was 9 months old at the time).  The other trainer meant well, but has never trained a dog like mine (high drives, titled parents, etc.) and he has mostly dealt in pet dogs, not true working dogs.  So I really can't fault him. But I do understand.  So, if you have a good trainer, please tell them how much you appreciate them!  I don't think we will every truly know much blood, sweat, tears and thought they put into our dogs and all because they love what they do!

Obviously things are done differently in the UK to the US. As I live inthe UK, could someone please explain to me why on wearth you'd send your dog away  to be trained by someone else? I lover training my dogs. OK I've made mistakes along the way but I know that when it comes to obedience commands, my dogs will do as I tell them because I've put in the time and effort. i think it also helps to build a relationship with your dog when yo do things yourself with them.

Also, why woudl someone pay someone else to have their dog vaccinated? Most trainers or clubs here train th eopwner inhow to train the dog and many won't accept dogs into a club/training class without being up to date wiht their jabs in the first place.

There are a few places that run residentail courses for dogs and owners to attend but are very expensive.

It's quite normal for one to send their dog to be trained in the US or Europe. Especially if it is being trained in schutzund. If this is the case then the dog maybe in training for 6-12 months or more. Hence, there will be times when the dog will require shots to keep it updated. In this particular case the dog was supposed to travel internationally, therefore it was important that the shots be up to date.
