Hello, I was wondering if anyone has ever had 2 litters together in the same room? I have 2 seperate whelping boxes and the litters will be 5 weeks apart. I dont want to make any stupid mistakes and have the females react badly to the pups of the other litter. The females do get along...Any advise or bad experiances? Thanks

HI,
I WOULD NOT IN A MILLION YEARS HAVE TWO LITTERS ANYWHERE NEAR EACH OTHER, IF THEY'RE ABLE TO GET TO ONE ANOTHER !! IT DOES NOT MATTER HOW GOOD THE ADULT FEMALES ARE, ONCE THEY HAVE A LITTER OF PUPS THEIR ATTITUDE CHANGES ALOT, THEY GET MORE DEFENSIVE AND WILL MOST DEFINITLY FIGHT EACH OTHER ! PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO HAVE THEM NEAR EACH OTHER YOUR ASKING FOR A HEAP OF TROUBLE.
BEEN BREEDING FOR 17 YRS.

There is a possibility that one female would kill the litter of the other. Also they get along cause one is dominant. The non Dominant female may not even have her litter cause of being in the same room. Have heard of a case where the female did not have the litter due to this and lost the full litter that was totally developed.
Very bad Idea!!!!!!!!!!!

Most females will do anything to defend their young and you will see a complete personality change in a bitch when she has puppies to protect. I have heard of some that resent any sort of disturbance or interference from their owner, let alone another bitch. If the litters are going to be 5 weeks apart could you not move the older pups somewhere else? They don't need to be in a whelping room at that age.

Thank you for all your feedback, I can move the older pups in another place, I was just wondering if it would work, I appreciate it.

I have an area set up in the attached garage. Heated and air conditioned. I have 2 6 x6 kennels and they both have flaps to go outside into big runs. Those kennels are attached to each other inside. We have used a swimming pool, like the above ground. This is plastic, and it is cut to fit the panels inside, so that the bitches can not see each other or get to each other even through the kennel panel. I have 2 4 x 4 whelping boxes, and we have a camera in the ceiling that we can watch the bitches from our bedroom at night. When pups are weaned the whelping box comes out and we put 1 x 12's around the inside of the 6 x 6 pen. The bitch is moved out and the pups are left in their with pine shavings down.

LOL! It is very nice with this set up. We don't have 2 litters together much, but with this set up it is very easy.
