My 10 month old dog was at an event where there was a lot of standing water and about 50 dogs doing dood and also a lot of wildlife, coyote, etc. activity at night. He bacame very sick on the fourth day of this event with extreme vomiting and diarrhea and would not eat for days. After stool sample and blood work and x-ray at the vet, it was determined he had a very bad giardia infection as well as e-coli. He had metronidazole, panacur and baytril and got better. As he is under a year old and still developing immune system, not previously exposed to a heavy burden of parasites/bacteria, he became very sick from it. It took several weeks of gradual transition from a cooked formula for him to recover to eating his normal kibble again with no issues. He was so ill, it gave me a big scare, lost five pounds in only the first four days of illness. Then a lot more weight loss. Now he is fine and eating like a monster. Trying to put the weight back on gradually, but he sure looks like a skinny pup! So happy he is back to normal now.
