ziegenfarm

well, i finally did it.  i walked out of petco and refused to pay their price.  earlier today i went to petco to pick up a bag of natures variety salmon kibble.  a couple of weeks ago i paid 60plus for 26 lb bag after petco discount.  today after petco discount and with tax added in it was 80plus change.  i said, sorry, i won't pay that.  i thanked him, parked the cart and went to my truck.  i suppose the price reflects the recent jump in transportation costs.  i just won't pay it.  i will just have to get creative in how i feed all these dogs.  it just seems that we are getting goudged at every turn & i'm getting really tired of it.

I wholeheartedly agree.
More people (me included) need to do that.  It is getting ridiculous.

I have been told by a retailer friend of mine that the average mark up on dog food is about 40%.
The big chains can do a little better.  But that is because they buy in massive quantities.
$20 in a couple of weeks time can't be due to transportation costs alone.
Sometimes I feel like we are cattle being led to the slaughter.....we just keep obliviously shuffling along........

Petco is a rip off as it is.  A lot of the stuff they carry cost way more than they do at other stores.

Sooo happy I work for a vet that can get me the food I use (Orijen and Acana) at cost!

I don't care for Petco at all. I think Petsmart is cheaper, has better sales.  Petsmart will honor prices of other places, Petco will but you have to argue with them to do it

Costco has a salmon and sweet potato kibble that is really good, average price in CA is $38, the turkey and sweet potato is $28. for 35 pounds

The best prices I've found on quality dog food is at my local, independently owned feed store.  I very rarely step foot in Petco or PetSmart

I know a lot of breeders who feed the Costco brand and swear by it. I've found that Tractor Supply has good prices on their food too. I don't buy much at Petco or PetSmart; I get most of my dog supplies from Amazon or at a show.

I bought a cat box with lid for one of my rescue rabbits for a whopping $25.00 on sale only to find it at Target for $11.00 on sale. same box. Boy did I feel sick. Petco I can will say though, allows me to adopt out rabbits from their stores so that $25.00 I paid that day didnt hurt so bad. Any supplies I need I usually buy online. Even with shipping its still much less. Xpens at Amazon with free shipping $32.00 Petco $71.99

Raw is now cheaper than bagged food. How sad is that!
