Today I saw ad for sale of rocco heredersfarm. Time to time we all see ads for sale of such a highly placed dogs. I heard even larus Batu, bax and other VA dogs were sold to china. Why are these top dogs sold? What would be the possible reasons 1) They are not good producers. 2) They are not as good at present 3) They have developed some defect 4) Everything is for sale 5) They dont fit the breeding programme anymore. If somebody wants to buy any of this dog is it risky in the sense that mostly defect will be there with this dog. Please everybody express their views. I am very much amazed about how anyone can sell such highly placed dog.

There are a couple reasons why GOOD dogs are for sale. 1)The owner has one better. 2)The dog has completed it's contrabution to the owner and is on the verge of retiring. Good dogs are often sold around 5 years old to make room for another rising star. 3) The dog was retained by the stud dogs owner to participate in the stud dogs' progeny group and once the sieger show is over, they have too many to keep and train/title for next year. Some of these are sold with hopes or partnerships where the dog returns the following year to be in the group again. 4) The dog does not carry the breeders kennel name and the kennel is concentrating and promoting what they produce. 5) There is a co ownership situation that's not working out or a divorce situation. Why marginally good dogs are sold: 1) They have a fault where they can be bought cheap, dressed up and remarketed with a higher price. 2) Their high place was a fluke and everyone realizes it but the stupid new buyer. 3) The pedigree database was running low on topics about being ripped off, not getting papers, sick dogs, etc.

I agree whit Sumo.Money rulss the world!

Yes it is sad but true money does rule the World. The amount of money offered for these top dogs is mind boggling. Unfortunatley many people wish to take a short cut to the top of the German Shepherd World and are willing to pay huge amounts of money. Many of these people have no idea of how to run a top breeding program and after the top dogs are sold to U.S.A and China you never see the top progeny again.

Many times people need to sell their valuables to get by, and sometimes they sell to get that boat or new car that has got their attention. Selling highly prized dogs is no different than selling a rare book or restored classic car. You hate to let it go but your priorities have changed. With the classic car or rare book, once it is gone, it is gone. At least with selling the dog, you may have siblings or parents that still belong to you and you surely have puppies from him/her. I don't find it as distasteful as most, that people sell their highly placed dogs. These dogs almost always were not bred and raised to be the family pet, but were raised and trained in the hopes of becoming the next "gotta have" stud, to make money. Everyone is correct. It is all about the money. I know several people that have show and/or sport dogs, that have a mutt as their family pet and would let their highly placed dog go, before they would let their mutt go. It's just a sorry fact that most animals are a commodity, to be bought or sold. If you don't believe me, just read the ads on this site. I personally have a hard time letting a puppy go that I "brought" into this world. May be why I haven't had a litter in many years. Of course I never have cared about money much. hat's probable why I still have all of my old comic books from the 50' and 60's. ;-)

When the dog is 4 ore 5 years, it's a normal thing in Germany, when the dog is young (ore just after the siegershow), it's most off all politics, I already wrote in another topic about politics between judges and other judges (owner's but not on the pedigree). If you would see what's all happening on the this year's Landesgruppenshows.... the Siegershow will be a big circus. I saw that people entered 150 dogs less as last year... it will be less and less in the future. It's all about the money, judges have a lot off friends, specially when those frieds are also judges.... wow the SV is a club full off "friendship"...

Randy that is funny! I won't be in St. Louis but I hope you have a good show.

Yes it is about money. At 5 you can still get some good money out of them. You see alot of females at this age also being sold. They have a couple more years of produceing left in them. The owner took them as far as they can go, got the puppies out of them that they wanted and now it is time to concentrate on a new dog. What is the sense of putting 27 SCH3's on the same dog. Sell it and move on to another challenge. Plus the americans will by it so they can brag as to haveing such a titled dog in their kennels.
