Hi all,

First of, I found out that Progeny pictures was not working for most breeds.  Been fixed now.

Other, these new laws are terrible.   If they go into action they would mean an end to almost all kinds of user submitted text.   i.e. a single user could post information (link, how-to, etc.) that would get the whole website banned from the whole of the US, forever.   Almost all websites would have to close forums / comment sections,  and heavily moderate what is left of user input (such as inserting a pedigree).  I understand the music/movie industry for wanting it, since it gives them incredible power to prevent copyright thefts outside of the US.  But it is at the cost of how the internet works today.   It would be like living in North Korea,.    How soon do you think that the laws would be used to close sites that have nothing to do with IP but are of a political nature?  (such as survival training)

Looks like lawmakers have changed their minds:  http://www.cnn.com/2012/01/19/tech/sopa-blackouts/index.html?hpt=hp_c2

Thank you ggturner for clarifying this. I thought I heard this on the AM news and then saw Oli's post. So I was confused a bit.

This is not over, money talks. And you can bet the bottom line that the backdoor lobbying will produce some form of this bill. Hollywood and the music industry will see to it. And in the end it will be the site owners and end users who will suffer.

I contacted my representatives and asked they oppose IP and SOPA.

Yes,
I am fully aware of the situation.

Now perhaps you understand my deep hatred for censorship of any kind.

It's not just my principles at stake now, it's your lively hood.

Of course I will express my views to my representatives, I am a US citizen.

But I do so out of an idea of what freedom is supposed to be, not because some will lose revenue.

No beetree, ggturner wasn't clear on her post (sorry ggturner)
She links to an article and here's the first sentence....

"Some lawmakers are rethinking their support of controversial anti-piracy bills that led to some websites shutting down in protest."

Don't give up now ~ It's losing support, yes, (and that's ONLY because people are standing up against it!) but it's not over!

@Moons lol
Oli's site would still be here! lol
Pedigrees and Ads would remain but the forums (which are not even close to being as popular as those) would be gone!
Mods would still be here and needed. But your music threads, your voice (for good or bad ~ censored or not) would not be here!

I don't think this affects Oli's regular/real life job OR the majority of the Database unless this does pass and someone feels they are above the rules and post things that gets the site shut down.  Then we will ALL lose! And lose a lot!  (Reason why Oli says the words Heavily Moderated).

He's speaking out for you and others....
Including those that enjoy making videos of their dogs with music playing or those that post or link to copyrighted material and even those who post music videos that are not made and put out by the artist and/or the music industry, themselves.

LOL.@ pixels,
shouldn't this thread be on the off topic forum?

I don't give a shit about the forums, I come here for diversity from my other surfing and that's about it these days.

No pixels, this idea goes far beyond any forum or a handful of websites.
Internet cyber war is already underway, it is a world apart and different rules apply here.

The Internet is a very fragile thing and possibly could not survive a cyber war.

It would never be the same ever again, becoming useless and without form.

This isn't new and it is not over by any means.

Just hope this site doesn't fall prey to activists, it's not out of the question, so moderate away.
And keep your attitude to yourself.

Moons.
