I have a question...
I would like to know how most of you feed your dogs. I'm not referring to puppies but adult dogs here.
Do you feed once or twice a day and why do you think it's best done that way?
Thanks,
Gabby

As long as i have owned a GSD, I have always fed twice a day. Just my opinion, I think that feeding once a day is too much food at one time for a dog.

We prefer twice a day. Feeding twice a day allows for more nutriants to be digested from a smaller. The dogs also don't go the whole day with an empty stomach.

Twice a day is best and Dawn is correct we do the adult dogs the same. Marlene

I have fed my dogs 2 times a day for over 35 years. I think it can help prevent bloat and torsion by not over loading the stomach. If you have mulitple dogs, it gives you another chance to observe them. I wouldn't want to eat only once a day either.

Thanks everyone!
I feed twice a day too but was told it's not necessary. I feel more confident hearing from all of you and your opinions.
I feed at 7:30 am and again at 6:30 pm and earlier in the winter. Does this schedule sound okay?
Thanks,
Gabby

Gabby,
I feed my dogs at 3:30am and again at 16:00pm. I start work at 6:00am and I work till 14:30pm.
This works for my schedule.
I want to add, that when I am training, I do not feed, but give kibble or hot dogs when training the dogs.

I also agree with twice a day feeding. I feed at 5:30 am and again at 5:30 pm. Agree with helps prevent Bloat and Torsion. If I am training in the morning wich by the time I am done with kennel duty and puppy duty starts around 8:00 am I will give the dogs to be trained a handful of kibble at 5:30 am and start training with light work, then feed them the remainder about 2 hours after training and just feed dinner a little later. Have never had any problems this way. Also found the dogs don't gulp the food down like they are starved when fed like this.
