I have a 7 1/2 year old female that is retired but gets to live the good life. We go for a 3 mile walk everyday ran or shine. In the summer she backpacks, follows me behind when I ride my horse and in the winter we x-country ski up to 12-15k 3 times a week. She is starting to get stiff I notice more this past 6 months. I will rest her if she is not up to it but also have started giving her K9 Full Flex for about 3 weeks and see a bit of improvement. I am wondering if anyone has seen results with a different product. ?? She just loves to do all this and want her to do it comfortably untill she can't anymore .

She gets feed alot of elk, deer and moose meat so I am going more natural with her and her weight is good. Any success stories??
Thank you,
Jill Straley

Nupro Silver is a decent supplement, Young at Heart is as well, Joint Strong.
You can also use human supplements. Schiff just came out with a new one, it has Hylauronic Acid in it, thats basically "Adequan".
Adequan is injectible. We prefer to supplement our senior with a daily dose rather than once a week/month injections, hence the human grade supplements.

Important names to look for in a supplement for mobility:
Glucosamine, MSM, Chondroitin, Hylauronic Acid, Yucca.
There are others as well of course.
I take the same Schiff supplement as our senior dog, but my SO doesn't wrap it in cheese for me

First off do you know why she is getting stiff, does she have joint disease, HD ?

I like YuMove for my dog with HD.

You can medicate all you like but if she's getting stiff at that age I recommend slowing down the routine a bit.
Nothing will reverse this, med's are nothing more than a band-aid.
Trade long runs for shorter easier walks, and take up swimming as a low impact exercise for her.
I don't know of any real success stories here, but slowing down and swimming as a replacement for long runs will not make it worst.

Supplements that aid in renewing/replicating natural synovial fluids in joints and aid with inflammation cannot make things worse, they can allow a dog a better quality of life.

Swimming can in fact make things worse if it is bone on bone grinding. Hydro therapy is not always the answer.

Let me guess Two Moons, you have never had an ache or pain in your life and never taken any over the counter or other meds/natural supplements to ease aches and pains? That includes smoking pot by the way

If it weren't for Joint Strong, my old dog could hardly walk. He cannot tolerate commonly prescribed anti-inflammatory meds, but the supplements are working fine. I also give him Young at Heart, which I swear takes a couple of years off his age as far as activity level and attitude. I should try that stuff myself!

Bijou, now 7 and a tad arthritic, also is on Joint Strong. The difference in the cooler months is significant.

I think the most important supplement which I started my 2 seniors on (13 & 11 l/2 years old) is a Salmon oil capsule (1000 mg + or -) depending on weight and a 400 mg Vit E capsule every day.  That I can honestly say has made a difference in their mobility.  Salmon/E is a natural anti inflamatory.  Best of luck  Nan

My dogs get salmon oil too.

I use Joint Strong on my 8.5 year old male... he also has DM. The Joint Strong has done WONDERS for his arthritis.

I have had success with all the above ingredients (not the specific named products or brands).  But I also recommend getting something with type II collagen.  I don't see people mention it often.
