I have a couple of questions about DE. I've been using it for a while now and know that it works for killing internal and external parasites. I am wondering, how often should it be used? Is is safe for everyday and how much per day/dose? If so, then does it kill the good bacteria in the digestive tract too? Has anyone had any adverse reactions to it?
Thanks for your info in advance!

I don't use it and would not ever want too.

It's all natural, I have been using it faithfully for about 2 years just about every day. Ornate make the dogs a tad more thirsty than normal, but it dehidrates parasites to kill them. Try to not let the dust get in the dogs nose or eyes when dusting them, but it is not going to kill them if you do get some in their eyes and nose. I try to feed it every day, and dust once a week their entire kennel before I throw straw and I dust the dog as well at that time. However, keep in mind if it gets wet it is useless, so don't do it if its wet out or raining/snowing. Please just make sure you have the FOOD GRADE DE.

Lots of things are all natural and will kill you and/or your dog--that is no protection.

Not that I think feeding DE or dusting with it will kill your dog.... I do think that while it can help, it's no magic bullet.

No... Your right Christine its not magic, but it will help if you are in an area like me, lots of fleas and ticks. It just takes the edge off so it is easier to control.

I can't even find it where I live. I would use it on the dirt under the rubber stall mats in Bijou's run, but none of the places I've been to here looking for it have ever heard of it.

It is my understanding that it kills by scratching and in essence mortally wounding the parasites. It is made of sea shells? I can't imagine that moisture would inhibit it because the whole digestive tract is moist. Yes, it's food grade. It's just my concern that if I use it everyday, that it may be killing the good bacteria and possibly leaving the digestive tract with microscopic scratches all the time. What's the normal dosage? I give a good sized pinch with their food, but don't know if that's too much or too little to do it's work.

Debby, it is made of silica which has multiple health benefits. The amount you should feed is 1-2 tablespoons for an adult shepherd.  You need to feed it for at least 60 days to get rid of all developing larvae.  I don't know about whether it upsets the good/bad bacteria balance but I've sent an email to someone who would know and will let you know when I hear back.
