Could someone please show a video of correct gsd heeling according to the new rules? I am not trying to start a debate, I just really want to know what to train my next puppy. If his head is straight up and not bent to the side, is that not correct? If his but goes down in the rear because he is drivey and I walk slow, is that not correct? If he bumps me, is that not correct? Where is he supposed to look? At my eyes? My armpit, the ground? What exactly is a "natural" gait without prancing or hopping? I have 3 Sch dogs. One prances if he holds his head up. To get him to not prance at heel position, I would have to teach him to look straight ahead, not focus on me. Another one walks, is this drivey enough to get a V score? My third one got pointed at his last 2 National trials for crowding me, yet I look at videos of our High in Obedience for this last Nationals and if that is not crowding, I don't know what is.
I do confess, I am really confused as to what picture of heeling is "correct". Can someone please enlighten me with a video?

according to the new rules the there needs to be a leval back while heeling and no front bouncing at all. That is what was explained in the meeting of new rules at the 2011 nationals. I spook to many judges about some of the new rules for a while. So if the dog is heeling and bending at the knee and showing not a leval top line this would be incorrect.
Good luck because there will be a learnign curve for the handlers and the judges both as we see them implament the new rules.

Weberhaus, I believe that would go against the heeling in the videos Jyl posted then? I'd like to see some up to the current standards then.
It's too bad, I love seeing that happy prancing/bouncing when they heel. Makes them look so enthusiastic about it.

The latest Schutzhund USA contains a detailed article by Nathaniel Roque that tracks the excellent seminar given at the KC nationals.

While I appreciate the article in the Usa Magazine, it leaves alot open to interpretation. A video of a German Shepherd heeling "correctly" would certainly help.
What exactly is unnatural? Like I said, I have a dog who naturally prances. Is he going to be deducted?
The article brings up a handler holding the left arm stiffly over or away from the dog. So where exactly am I supposed to put my left hand to avoid hitting my dog in the face?
"the dog walking more on the rear than the front, i.e. hopping or prancing."
Is this dog going to not get good points any more?
Tobias Oleynic B 98 Kuba Fluchtweg.avi on YouTube. (Excuse my inability to get it to link here!)
So for the majority of us who were not able to spend the money to fly to Kansas City and attend the seminar, is there a written copy of it somewhere?

I am curious too and how to Un teach a dog that naturally prances. I thought they wanted a happy dog picture in o/b and my happy dog also prances when he walks. I have no idea how to stop that and I am not sure I want to.

listen carefully as I will only say this once (my favorite phrase from allo allo)
now seriously , try to find the videos of peter scherk training his new dog on youtube , he is in the committee of new rules , and as soon as all suckers come on the field with a dog heeling like his previous worldchampion , he has his new dog ready according to the new rules

So, for instance, this dog got 98 at the 2011 WUSV.
Under new rules, would this dog now be incorrect?

OK now I'm curious too!
This is my puppy at a year old, he was two weeks too young for his BH this year (my group trialed this past Sunday, got SchH1 with my other dog, and I don't have time to travel to another trial in Dec) so he will be starting with his BH in spring 2012 and we're doing titles with USCA. Is his heeling OK for the new rules? I have not really done much heelwork yet (mainly focus in basic and front position and the heeling in this video is just how he moves on his own) so I can change things if I need to. Am I holding my hand in an acceptable position? I am really trying to prevent this dog from forging and wrapping me too bad because he is going to be pretty big and I don't like to hold my hand out to the side unnaturally just to make room for the dog's head.
