So basically every day when I leave, my Huskies howl.....or talk......or both for a couple of minutes..... I always put them in the "pen" downstairs (It gives them a good amount of open space to move around in while I'm not there and keeps them out of the rest of the house) when I leave to go somewhere, and Little Dude (until he gets a little bit older) goes in the giant crate. I decided this morning that I would set the camera up before I left, and just go out as I usually do. I always say "see you guys in a bit" when I leave, it's just a habit I guess. Anywho, here is the video. (I'm not sure how to embed it)

Cute! Huskies are beautiful dogs.
Do your neighbors get mad about all that howling?

Next time I'll turn the volume down, my dogs heard the "Husky Symphony" and started singing along.

hahaha Kim, sorry about that.
Dawulf, my neighbors don't really hear it. We have a HUGE fields before our yard....behind our yard.......and then past our yard is another field (Our yard is fenced in though)......after that is some of my family who is older and they don't really hear it anyway. On the opposite side of the street the house has no one living in it, and the other house on the opposite side of the street is an older couple (mid 70s) who absolutely love my dogs. I can hear it up to the top of the driveway, but any farther than that you can't hear them very well. (Outside of the car I mean).

Thank you so much for that video. We had a Sibe x Rottie x GSD who vocalized much like your three. My favorite memory is of him howling "How you" when I got up in the mornings.
Nice pen!
Nice pen!

Aqua, no problem. That's a pretty cool combination of dogs into one dog. There is actually a fourth Sibe in that giant crate (big enough for a Great Dane) back there. He's 28 weeks old today.....When he's somewhat older he'll always be out like they are if I'm not there. With the pen I bought two of them........and had it go across the basement, but it doesn't show all of it in the video. I didn't want to crate my dogs when I leave to go somewhere, but I didn't want them going throughout the house or into the other parts of the downstairs if I'm not there......so this was a good alternative.

Our GSDs always howl when we leave, much to my husbands dismay. I like their howling. And I loved listening to your dogs concert, so did my dogs, they chimed in also! LOL! My hubby, not so much, also LOL! jackie harris

AWESOME! We might all have different takes on what we saw. Here's mine: I try and tell people that dogs don't have the reasoning as humans in the example of when we walk out the door. Kids know you'll be back, you'll be back at such and such a time or after you do this and that. Dogs don't/can't. That's why they're so excited to see you when you return!
My thoughts are a strong, strong bond. The pack has been broken and there recalling the Alpha. Once they realize that you ARE gone then they settle in..... and even junior participates. The first few secs with the one that stands from a sit, looks out the door and whines alittle is sad/missing you immediately. (Maybe your "special" one) then the harmony starts. And it's not a bark or annoying barking it's a mellow, a little sad howl saying your going/gone. Just my read.

alboe I think you're right on that. Another thing to note, if they see me......or even if I'm just upstairs......they absolutely never howl. Only when I really leave. The one standing up first is the one that has the strongest bond to me. He's the one who can tell when I'm physically sick (he sits against me to support me without me asking), or if something is bothering me, and he's even helped me to keep my balance when I almost passed out before (obviously I sat down after that). He reads me like a book, and he is extremely in tune to everything about me. He's the dog who is excellent at reading people and keeping me away from people that aren't trustworthy. I've never seen or had a dog like him.
