Hello, I've heard several breeders now tell me that Czech dogs and DDR dogs are the same. Can someone pelase tell me the difference between DDR and Czech?  Are they both the same?
Thank You!

They are not the same, one from East Germany (DDR) and the other from Czech.  Many cross the two lines together though.

it has a lot to do with the look (especialy head) and temperament....(in my opinion) , DDR are more stubborn, but harder, and that's why they used them in Czech , to get them tougher..

Not all DDR dogs are tough, stubborn, nor do they have big heads and big bone.  You really can't generalize.  I know I fell for that BS, and was disappointed.
My Czech dog was a very nice big dog, beautiful conformation, handler sensitive, sharp, but not as nearly as much of a spook as the DDR dog.

Why don't you tell us how you really feel RS...lol
The poster who owns the kennel www.gsd.ru has some very nice looking DDR dogs.

My Male is line Bred on Lord and other notable DDR Dogs.In general,I find Dogs with DDR Bloodlines to be Very Immature, and really Big Babies with their Handlers, with alot of Natural Guard Instincts, even without Formal Bitework.

I never was very good at bullshit.

I'm sure there are great DDR dogs out there, these rumours gotta start somewhere,  but, there are good dogs in every line, finding them is the hard part!

I agree that the majority of DDR dogs seem to mature slower.

Tell me exactly what you mean by slow to mature?  What changes?  And more importantly, at what age?

I've bred GSD's for 30 yrs, started in American lines way back, been in European lines the past 15 yrs. for the dogs I've seen/owned, the DDR lines were more "puppyish" mentally way later, filled out later, say 2-3 yrs old. Just matured later, simply put! My Slovak, Czech, and W.Ger ones were fully filled out and mentally more mature by 18mon-2yrs.  But of course there are MANY different lines/ etc,  so just could have been mine. I dealt with all imported stock.
