3 year old, active, male German Shepherd Dog.
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance!

I would like to see the hip sockets deeper, especially the right hip is very shallow.  Probably will get a mild dysplasia.  Fair would be nice but I don't think that right hip will pass with fair;  left hip would probably be fair (right side of screen).  But for 3 years old??  Have to wait and see, are you doing OFA or SV?  Best of luck  Nan

I agree with Nan, the hip on the right side of the screen isn't in very well, and sockets are not very deep.

mild HD, I see too much space around the ball on both sides....

But hey, what the heck do I know anyway...

Have you already sent them in?
Which hip registry?

Good luck, let us know what he gets.

Lots of laxity.....

I think a 3 year old dog with lots of laxity would be showing signficant arthritic changes--which I don't see much of. The femoral necks may be a little bit thickened, but I don't see some of the really major changes that often show up.

Do you have a clearer copy of the x-ray? What'd the x-raying vet say?

I'm with Christine. I'd like to see a better, clearer picture, and I'd like to see the knees to figure out what kind of angle it's taken at.

Thank you to all for input. I do not know if I can get a better image, I will contact the person who currently has the dog and ask.
Several vets have said "Good" but a few people have had concerns. I don't see any laxity or remodeling, but the femoral necks just kind of "meld" into the heads..... so not sure what OFA will say.

What I see
right hip - flattening head, too much space in between head and socket, and space is not parallel, socket is shallow
left hip - flattening of head and too much space in between head and socket.

The quality of the X-ray is horrible, as there is so little contrast....
I magnified the view to 400x to be able to see the image a bit more clearly.

Xray is not diagnostic. Knees are not visible, contrast is poor, dog needs to be sedated. For a close call like this, a much better xray is needed.
