4k for a 2 year old green dog? Granted the dog is very well bred but wow. Seems steep to me.

I wouldn't pay that for a green dog.

I personally would not pay that for a green dog. No matter the pedigree of the dog.

How green?

Does it have any training at all?

Yes, again how green. Can we see pedigree?

We pay much more than that for "green" Police dogs prospects, with out any papers.  We test dogs anywhere from 12 to 36 months old.  This is for a working dog that passes our evaluation and testing process.  Yes, I would pay that for a green dog if it had the traits I was looking for.  There are many vendors and breeders that I would avoid and wouldn't consider one of their dogs.

I agree with what Jim says. Really, it depends on the dog itself and what you want it for. For a green K9 that passes
all of the testing, PDs will pay much more then 4K and pedigree doesn't even fit into the equation. A good dog is a
good dog regardless of what lines it comes from.

Slamdunc,

Can you give an approx. %age of the GSDs who pass your type of testing out of the total GSDs tested, just wondering. Thanks.

Ibrahim,
We go to vendors who import dogs specifically for Police and Military work.  I would say about 15 to 20 % of the dogs I test have what I think is necessary to do the job.  I have learned that we test harder and are pickier than most.  Our testing process is pretty extensive and designed to bring out the strengths and weaknesses of each dog.

Thanks Jim for the info though I am not pleased to know the percentage is this low and I understand that you need to choose suitable dogs for the job.

Ibrahim
