I am planned to buy a SV Pink pappered V rated GSD bitch from Italy, it is mated with a top VA dog available there. How I can confirm from the owner that she is mated with the VA dog.. any paper confirmation i will get ?. i am living outside Italy.. anyone can comment on this ?.. Pregency confirmed by ultrasound... only to "believe the owner" or any other way ?.............
Ultrasound is good. There are also pregnancy tests out there, but they can not be done until 4 weeks into whelp. They can also be palpated at 4 weeks by an experienced person/vet. NONE of these are 100% accurate! You have to take your chances with that.
If you get puppies, you can DNA test them. I believe all/most VA dogs are DNA registered?
Good luck!
female is already 28 days over and confirmed the pregnency by ultrasound.. Did I get any papers from the mated dog owner that "female is mated by his dog" ?.. any other kind of confirmation possible before birth of puppies ?..
About Proof Of Sire:
It's called having trust. Past that, the owner of the sire is required to sign a document stating that the breeding did indeed occur, and that it was witnessed. A copy of this document will be required to register the litter, so be sure this will be provided to you. I believe that VA-rated dogs are nowadays required to have a DNA number, so at least that is some assurance.
About Registration Papers:
You did not say, but assuming that that this this dam (and her litter) will be A.K.C. registered there are more documents that you must obtain. In addition to the proof of mating, you must also receive S.V.-issued pedigrees for both the sire and the dam, and the pedgree for the dam must indicate that you are her owner.
Everything sounds fantastic, and I wish you the best of luck,
Bob-O
Getting a real education here myself. It is my understanding that the document Bob is talking about for the sire is the deckbescheinigung and will need to be submitted to and confirmed by the SV. You will need also this to AKC register your litter. Whatever else you may have heard AKC id the governing body for registering pups born on US soil
Regards
And the female would have to be DNA'd by AKC before any pups can be registered. Believe AKC passed this in March.
Best to take your time before you import anything. I would suggest you ask around and know who you are dealing with. Hear many horror stories from people like you. Good luck....
You may want to go here for the official AKC rules. http://www.akc.org/rules/special_registry_services.cfm
It sounds like an Italian breeding so the SV rules would not apply. If you are in the US, you will need to talk to Wendy Murray at the AKC Foreign Registration Department to find out what papers are required to register the litter.
I'm sure one will be a document showing you as the owner at the time of breeding. I would find out where the dogs were mated and what registery the male is registered with before I called.
It can be a long process. Bear in mind, chances are the seller is not familiar with your countries registration requirements and may not know what papers need to be provided. It may be up to you to do the leg work to get the litter registered.
GSDcrazy,
If you have any question on believeing the breeder as to what dog the female was bred to then the question should be do you trust the breeder. By posting this you apparently are not sure if you trust the breeder that what they told you is true. If you don't think you can trust them then don't buy from them. You can do DNA but ultimately if you feel you need proof as your post would suggest, don't buy from them.
