Eika comes from "old blood," bloodlines that have faded out or are so far back in a dog's pedigree it doesn't have much to any influence anymore. She's linebred on a VA dog that comes from the era before the large division between show and working lines.

Yup, that Eika. The dog does not have to be old to carry old blood.

ok, but she is not far back in my dogs pedigree?  she is my pups granddam, thats close enough to matter in his pedigree right? hmmm...maybe im not understanding what you mean, im pretty new at this stuff, maybe you can explain futher , if you wouldn't mind?

the reason im asking VHK about her is, it says on her pedigree (in the comment area) what kennel she belongs to and it says--be ready for puppies, are somthing like that...i imagine that part is old, but im assuming if they were the ones that bred her- then they were prob the ones that sold my pups sire to the breeder i got my pup from...my pup was a gift to me and i never met the breeder, so i never got to ask info about my pups pedigree. VHK, is the only person i've found so far that would know personal< (for lack of a better word) about his pedigree...if you know about eika, is there anything you can tell me about this pedigree? not really anything specific, just some general info/opinions on it would be nice...thanks very much,

julie

The comments about Eika do not really apply to your dog because any dogs with a diluted influence on Eika are two additional generations further diluted in your dog. For example, Eika is linebred 5-5 on a VA dog. That means that same dog shows up in her pedigree twice in the 5th generation, the last generation most people consider having any meaningful influence on the dog. So that dog is now so far back in your dog's pedigree it is not considered influential anymore.

Here's what I mean by old blood. Eika has Fero in her 3rd generation. Many, many dogs go back to Fero, but those of breeding age have him in their 4th, 5th or even later pedigree. To find a dog of breeding age with Fero that close in the pedigree is not common. Same with the VA dog she's linebred on. To find a breeding age dog linebred on any of the high placing Sieger Show dogs before the split is not common either.
