I am waiting on my baby to get here. She is a purebred German Shepherd Dog. I have a rather silly question :  I'd like to know what color the pups will be if you know the following .

Sire : black/tan  shepherd

Dam : Black/Tan  working Gsd....

Now...Does anyone have any idea what the pups will turn out like ?  ( Color)

I do know that the dam was kicked out due to an aggression issue. Seems she always went for the chest area instead of the arm. Uhhmm ???
Will the pups inheret her issues ?

Thanks......Rick

A dog doesn't inherit what part of the body they will bite on. Is that the only reason she was a "washout"?  And why a "King Shepherd"?  If we breed, we should breed for the standards, not over size giants.

Your name suggests an interest in using this puppy for sar? I hope not.

I thought you had already found your dream dog?????
More then likely the pups will be black and tan if the parents don't carry any other recessives.
What happened to the other dog?

If the sire truly is a king shepherd and your pup inherits his size and you do use it for SAR if you have to carry it any length of time, you may regret that move. Also I am like the others, what happened to your other dog you were getting?

Why do you even bother linking a copy of MY ARTICLE when you're obsessed about those B&T croaks?  All the genetics you need to get is toad + toad = tadpole!

There are 4 standard phenotypes that are composed of 10 different genotypes.  A combination of Black/Tan parents can potentially lead to any results, except sable.  You need to know the parents genotypes to be certain, but I'd imagine that most King shepherds are homozygous for black & tan (I don't know much about them), and if so, all pups will be Black/Tan.

To All Concerned :
I still have my OTHER dog and she is wonderfull. I am considering this pup as a gift for my  mom. I firmly believe that there are two (2) classes of german shepherd dogs.  PET and true Working K-9's.

I ask a very simple question and I seem to get harrassed about it. WHY ??? Oh, by the way , my screen name has notta to do with anything !!!

I also believe that before a person chooses to answer a question on here , Look real deep inside to see if you can do so without bias or insult.......

So, I think daryl's chart needs to be reworked, since if one reads pod's new post on the agouti gene, the "as", doesn't exist. I think that is what this means, lol.

And Lakewood SAR your definition of what a pet dog is, and is not, is uh, well, I want to say this nicely, seemingly self-serving. Everyone generally likes to see themselves on top, I guess. My pet dog is still a working dog, he just gets lots of days off, LOL
